In what type of conference do you think

ISU could make a quicker turnaround? In a conference like the Big 12 where defense is sometimes hard to find, but the offenses are a little more imaginitive or the Big 10 where the offenses are rather boring, but they play defense?

I'm glad we're in the Big 12 in terms of entertainment. I just enjoy 45-40 games more than 13-10, but I was thinking about the question on which might be easier to show progress faster in. I think the Big 12 south has a more difficult path than what big 10 teams face; while, the north is probably a little easier than the big 10, but once you mix in three teams from the south, the north is probably about on par with the big 10.

I almost think we have a better chance where we are if the new OC is anywhere near the mesianic level we've placed on him. In high scoring games, sometimes the team with the ball last wins (example Colorado this year...oh wait we blew it). Whereas I think the defense is far enough behind the offense at this point, that it would be hard for us to win those close fought defensive struggles. What do you think?

Don't really care, wouldn't give up the Big 12 for anything.

Why is the Big 12 getting a bad rap about their D still. Sure in bowl games Big 12 teams havnt scored like they did during the season but the Defenses are not giving up a pile of points either, which happened a lot during the season. When you get 6 weeks to get ready for a team you are going to be able to slow them down.

While the little eleven plays defense and lacks offense, it makes it easier to say you are 12 points away from the National Championship game.

In the Big XII, when you lose to a better team, it will probably be a blowout.

I still vote for the Big XII.

Re: In what type of conference do you think

I wouldn't say that the Big12 is bad at defense, ISU is bad at defense, but the Big12 is alright. We just have very good offenses. Not sure who posted it, but someone had a excel of the Big10 and Big12 defensive numbers from bowl games and it was neck and neck. Big12 was slightly better at pass D and Big10 was slightly better at run D- aside from that there was no difference in the numbers.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think leaving the Big12 would be a big mistake and the only thing that could make it worse is if we go to the Big10. We compete against Iowa too much as it is, Being in the same conference would be awful. I lived in Washington, I know what I'm talking about.

Being in the Big12 is one thing ISU has going for it. Let's face it, the Big12 is one of the three best conferences and has been for awhile. Allot of people come to ISU simply because it is in the Big12.

The extended time off favors defenses. It also disrupts passing offenses more, their timing suffers. None of the Big12 QBs were nearly as sharp in the bowl games.

    Mountain West

That does not mean that I think we should leave the big 12, because that would be stupid.

The CIML Metro, just Ankeny would kick butt with the misdirection wing offense. Or the Pioneer League with one loss to Drake.

Go back to your cage, this isn't the in-state rivals section.

So you really think time off doesn't hurt offenses that have found a rhythm and are clicking? Also, you don't believe that extra weeks of film study and practice time would not benefit a defense and their reaction to certain offensive sets? Ok then. My bad.

Re: In what type of conference do you think

Big 12 defenses are getting a bad wrap because after scoring ridiculous amts of pts during conference play, none of the offenses were able to put up those numbers in their bowl game. Mizzou didn't score an offensive td in the 1st half against Northwestern, Texas was held in check the entire first half, Oklahoma didn't come close to their season average against Florida, Texas Tech didn't come close to their average. Kansas and OSU were the only two that had their offense playing the way it was in conference play and I'm afraid that those two were because of terrible defenses they played against.

I would be interested to see USC play Florida now. I think that would have been a better game and I think Oklahoma vs Penn St would have been a better game.

Agree. I wasn't even interested in that matchup for the NC. Moving the Cyclones to the Big 10 would be a bad move. They don't play the style of the conference and it would be "boring". I also agree that Iowa playing Iowa State in conference play would get old. Think Michigan/Michigan state or Okie/Okie State. Pass.

Re: In what type of conference do you think

Without playing in the Big XII or SEC, ISU loses any kind of recruiting angle at all. Yeah, we're cold, we're North, but we are in the Big XII. I tihnk any other conference, but a major one and we lose what talent we have up to this point. look at Utah. Pretty much their motto right now is, "Even with an undefeated season, you'll never have a shot at the National Title." Well as far off as it might be for us at this point. We have a better shot of winning a National Title than Utah does, imo.
