    McDermott's coaching style

Just throwing this out there after watching (I'm sorry) the Iowa game and Lickliter coach his team.

I noticed Lick takes a seat a lot and really lets the kids play. He doesn't have one foot on the court and one off, giving instructions constantly. It also seems like he doesn't have a whole lot of sets, but he keeps the offense simple. And by doing this, his guys seem really relaxed and comfortable out there.

On the other hand, you have just the opposite with McDermott. Constant changing of plays and instructions for a lot of the shot clock. Guys just don't seem to get into a rhythm much and look tenative.

    Thoughts?

Disclaimer: I'm a big McDermott fan. I'm just pointing out that I think McDermott's system is going to take a lot longer for the kids to get comfortable with.

    Re: McDermott's coaching style

I've told this to numerous people, but I feel like McDermott's offense allows us to stay close in games that we should probably lose, but in games where we should probably dominate we also are close. His offense relies on us taking quality shots and playing good defense... we'll get there.

    Re: McDermott's coaching style

Morgan sat there and let them play and people didnt like that. So I guess no matter what the coaches style is there is some fans who dont like it.

    Re: McDermott's coaching style

Wayne Morgan was criticized for "just sitting there" and not coaching. I think there needs to be a balance between the two styles, meaning there are times to let things flow, and times where coaches have to direct and dictate what happens.

    Re: McDermott's coaching style

lickliters offense sucks i think, it looks like there a bunch of highschool kids running around, they dont really use screens a whole ton and just kinda run around, but ill be honest i dont really like coach mac's a whole ton either, sometimes it works but if teams figure it out were easy to beat, and it lets alot of teams that we should beat by 30 and we only win by 10-15 points when its not working well any team can beat us, when it works well were a hard team to beat...im not trying to whine but coach mac shouldnt have us running up and down the floor but when we score 70+ we have a great record

On the other side of the coin, they lost by 3 to the #19 team.

    Re: McDermott's coaching style

It might help us stay in games, but it doesn't help us win. I like Mac, but we better win at least 8 games in conference play this season. The North, hell the Big12 in general, is not nearly as good this season; it's time to make some noise.

    I'm guessing 5-6.

Yeah, bring back Dan McCarney...oh, I mean Wayne Morgan.

Seriously, just because Mac hasn't panned out yet doesn't mean that we should of kept Morgan.
