    Windows 7...

Looks as though a beta version of Windows 7 is on its way. I have played around with beta versions of some programs but never an operating system. Anyone on here plan on giving Windows 7 beta a look? One thing this does for me is that I definitely won't buy a computer with Vista on it!

After you play around with it could you post a report about your experience?

One of the guys that builds our images has played around with it some already and thinks it's not really much different than Vista so far.

    Re: Windows 7...

I grabbed it last night off MSDN. So far so good. It's like they took Vista and made it faster with some new features.

That is disappointing to hear! I realize it is early though...

It's definitely not an entirely new OS. It's like Vista.5. Faster. The task bar changes are the biggest.

I have it on a good 1 year old laptop. I'm going to try it on a netbook tonight. The netbook is slow and doesn't have much ram so it should be a good test.

There have been leaked versions on download sites. The one released last night to developers/partners is the first real beta. I think the other ones were Microsoft putting pre-betas out there to let people test without knowing it.

    Re: Windows 7...

I have heard that it's like a fixed version of Vista, with some new features I'm sure.

I am running Windows Mojave, and it's far superior to Vista.

Not really. It makes sense. You don't change everything with every release. Vista was a big change and people don't handle that well. This release should be about speed, stability, and very minor changes. That's what Apple does with OS X and it works well.

It's not really that early. This is a beta so it's pretty much feature complete. Historically for Microsoft they will work on bug fixes, but they won't add features. If anything they will cut features that don't make the grade.

Isnt it supposed to be to vista what win98 was to 95?

(of course that means we'll get vista's equivalent of WinME in a couple years )

That is funny stuff. They should release that Mojave theme for Vista. I'd love to show people Mojave.

Your post makes sense. I meant that it is early in terms of the reactions of users. I apologize for not being clear.

I guess. I wouldn't word it like that, but I wouldn't say you are wrong. Win 98 actually was a bigger jump from 95 than most people realize. This should actually be a smaller jump than 95 to 98 was.

    What I've seen:
    It boots faster.
Task bar take some getting used to.
UAC is better, more options. In Vista I always turned it off.
A few UI tweeks here and there.
Connecting to wifi (or networks) is easier.
It should be more stable, but I haven't had any problems with this laptop so I can't say.

    ME was such a POS.
