Big 10 & Big 12 bowl game stats

Here are the stats with one Big 12 team remaining. Jon Miller, you were right, the Big 10 plays MUCH better defense then the Big 12. The Big 10 gives up 395.3 yards/game in the bowls while the Big 12 gives up 396.7 yards/game. B12 is giving up 29.2 points/game while B10 gave up 30.

Very humbling for the Big Ten.

I guess that shot that theory that they play solid defense in the Bg Ten while we have been accused in the Twelve of not worrying about defense if we can score enough. They did hold McCoy to only 400 yards passing.

    Here's another one:

In seven Big Televen bowl games, the Big Televen team had either the same or higher conference standing than their opponent in six of them.

How does that compare to the Big 12?

So basically Shonn Greene saved the prestige of the Big Ten this year.

Very nice. Gives us even more ammo for future arguments.

Big 12 had 5 of 7 the same or higher. The big difference is The Big 12 is guaranteed a winning record at 4-2 while the Big Televen is a ridiculous 1-6 (That would be at least four time the wins and at least half of the losses). The moral of the story, thank gawd for the Big Televen.

Re: Big 10 & Big 12 bowl game stats

I guess Jon and all of his followers who said "The Big 12 doesn't play defense" were right after all.

The only thing they forgot was that the Big 10 doesn't play defense either.

The most telling stat to compare the two conferences is Big 12 3, Big 10 0.

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.

    * and in all three match-ups the Big Televen team had either the same confrence standing or better. There is no argument.

Interesting, Big12 has better pass defense and the Big10 has better run defense.

Re: Big 10 & Big 12 bowl game stats

When you have two passing, spread offenenses facing off vs. two run oriented offenses the numbers will naturally be skewed due to the number of possessions. Now with the spread offenses facind running teams they are getting less possessions but still putting up points and yards...

    I can hear it now:
CHadM-according to the NFL draft the B10 is as good as the b12. You see the average speed of MLB's drafted in 08....yawn.
SHawk-Uh huh. No way does that make sense facts don't support the outcomes. Nu uhhh.

As far as depth goes though, the combination of White, Woodbury, Olaseni, Basabe, and Uthoff is much better than Niang, Ejim, Edozie, Gibson. Not because of the top 2, but because of the next 2 or 3. -DeanVogs

Re: Big 10 & Big 12 bowl game stats

I would like to see a comparison of bowl opponents for; SoS, opposing teams W-L and Sargian (sp?) rankings... but I don't have the time to put it together... plus I am sure the general conclusion would be the same.

Re: Big 10 & Big 12 bowl game stats

It's funny how much people align with a conference. I like Texas a little and I tend to root for them when they don't play ISU but last night when they played OSU I was rooting like crazy for them simply bc I hate Ohio State. The only reason I hate them is because of their big 10 status. It got me wondering why I hate the big 10 so much. Could be it is just bc eiu is in it i guess. But honestly I look down on every big 10 team for no real reason. Why is this?
