    Dominic Alvis, recruit

    Dominic Alvis - Football Recruiting

I saw on Rivals that Dominic Alvis was in town last week. He is a De from Logan, Ia and accepted a grayshirt offer from Iowa a few weeks ago. But now the new coaching staff has some interest in him.

I had never heard of him before, but I guess he broke a bone and missed some of his senior year of football. We really need some DL and might be a decent athlete, as he made it to state in the 110m hurdles. But im not sure if he will choose us over Iowa, but it is a grayshirt, offer. Maybe we can if we offer a regular ride.

    Re: Dominic Alvis, recruit

Kid's coach was selling him hardcore as a player to the previous staff but they had zippo interest in him. The coach knows what he's talking about though, was on staff at Iowa State as a GA with Rhoads after playing Middle Linebacker and Team Captain for the 'Clones in the '90's. He probably gave PR a call about 5 minutes after his announcement as head coach. Im willing to bet Alvis could be a major help on the D-Line everyone is so worried about in the future.

His Coach is Matt Straight. Played safety for the Clones.

It should be easy swiping him from the squawks. We've got momentum on our side with the new coach. Plus rumors of Ferentz going to the pros have to have him looking. Also the gray shirt vs full ride from the get go makes this guy money in the bank.

Let me be the first to welcome you Dom!

I played baseball in HS against Straight. He had a wicked knuckle-curve.

Easy? Iowa just won a bowl game. I like our chances if we offer a regular scholly but easy doesn't seem like the word I'd use. Is Avis a Hawk or a Clone fan?

Avis is too worried about renting cars to get involved in the Clones vs. hawk battle.

    Re: Dominic Alvis, recruit

This is the kind of guy that no one has heard of until he pops up in the two deeps 3 years from now at Iowa and goes on to get second team all-Big 10 and a few NFL looks.

I'm not saying Dominic is going to do this - but Iowa has made their program based on finding players and developing them. Some of their best players are this kind of unrecruited hidden gem. I know it has happened some in the past with our players too.

If our coaching staff really told Alvis that he wasn't "big enough" to play football for the Cyclones, that's a big mistake and a glaring flaw in their recruiting I think.

That said, I've got no idea if the talent is there to develop, but hopefully our coaches do and they make the right decision about a scholarship.

have you ever got caught outside In a strong rainfall? Yes or NO. If it"s yes, then you might half felt the pane of hard(tought) rain on you head. If it hurt"s then it"s tough. Yes or no. Okay I'm right and you know it.

So alothough you attempt"ed to say you didn"t understnad, now you do. Fair enough?

This is a guy in the Reggie Cleveland all stars. Anyone else have a mental picture of what he was going to look like. Only to open the link and find out that he is white. Sorry had to say it.

Funny thing is if you look back to the 2004 class, Iowa got King, Kroul, and bentler. ISU did a lot better bynumbers and rankings getting Coleman, Furgeson, and Scales. Then finishing with Carper and Goos. i would say Iowa got the better deal with King and Kroul
