    Baby Gift

I need a little help on this one. My wife is due to have our first baby this week, which is terrific. I think I'm set to go there.

But a female co-worker who just had a baby asked me what I was getting my wife as a gift for having the baby, a Push Gift, she called it. Needless to say, I have no idea what she is talking about.

Has anyone heard of this? If so what are some examples? I thought this might just be some jewelers idea to drum up sales but I want to be sure.

I think it may actually be a collaboration between the jewelry stores and women on this one but you only have one option here. I know the women in my family hammered my brother in law about this prior to the birth of his child. Kind of sounds like jewelry is the best way to go.

You gave her a baby what more could you ever give her. I got my wife some of her fav movies on DVD so she could watch them while she was in the hostipal. Do something simple. Dont forget to bet the newborn a football if its a boy and if its a girl the sports ball of your choice.

From the few posts that are here so far I am starting to think I may have married into the wrong family.

Related but different question . . . do you do mother's day for a pregnant wife?

Yes. She is caring for that child.

    Re: Baby Gift

After you see childbirth, you will know that she deserves a gift. I don't know if she wears necklaces, but a locket would be nice and then take a pic of the baby and put it in there with you and her. A nice locket, make sure it isn't gold overlay... they dull down/rub off really quickly.

I think any gift that lets her know how much you love her would work though. If she isn't a jewelry girl than get her something that she would like.

Just in case you didn't know... I'm a girl.

Great, so she gets two presents before this baby even shows up? No wonder she wanted this thing so bad.

    Re: Baby Gift

crap ... really? my wife is due in 8 days and I've never heard of such a thing.

of course I never knew there were 2 wedding rings either, or whatever that extra ring that is added to the original ...

apparently I'm not getting her anything, I'll let you know how that turns out.

    Re: Baby Gift

Never heard of the baby gift for the mother. If this is the first, you should be drowning in so many gifts right now another one won't even be noticed. A gift wouldn't be a bad idea, though. A spa day would be nice, or a simple piece of jewelry or knicknacky "baby's first" whatever.

And, yes, you absolutely should get a mother's day gift for your pregnant wife.

I didn't get my wife anything for being pregnant. I never knew about all the various wedding/engagement rings either. If your wife is like mine, she'll just make up the difference by buying herself random presents for the rest of your lives

    Re: Baby Gift

After 4 kids let me tell you, she is too worn out to care if you got her anything. Just help her as much as you can, then get her something after about a month when you two get into some sort of routine.
