Congrats from a Rice Fan and New Cyclone!!

    To the ISU faithful,

I am new here because of your tremendous hire of an Offensive Coordinator. I have known and been a fan of Coach Herman for a long time and have watched him have nothing but success at every program he's been a part of.

I am ECSTATIC that he has moved to the Big 12 and will now have even more of a national spotlight.

I can answer some of your questions about the Rice offense he ran watched all of their televised games this past season and went to Houston for a couple of them as well. The first thing I can tell you is get ready to buckle your seat belt hold on and be entertained by a HIGH POWERED HIGH OCTANE OFFENSE.

My question to you is, what can you tell me about your (my new) team?? I'd love to start to learn some names, key returners, strengths, weaknesses, etc.

Congratulations and I hope you're good with some new Cyclone fans!!!!!

LOL, might be the first OC bandwagon fan I've ever seen.

I've been reading some stuff that he likes running from the shotgun with 1 RB, 1 TE and 3 WR....that accurate?

    Oh, and welcome!

Re: Congrats from a Rice Fan and New Cyclone!!

Remember: "Once A Cyclone, Always A Cyclone" it's kind of our thing. Great to have ya on CF!

Plenty of people can fill ya in on our key guys. This is a VERY young team that if it gets in the right mindset can do some damage and is always fun to watch.

I've seen some video of the Rice offense of the past few years and am just wondering if there are any (if at all) plays that you DON'T like to see run? It's easy to point out the good things in the offense, but what weaknesses if any do you see in the offensive scheme?

btw - Most of us LOVE the hire like you!

Like I posted on the blog, Herman's got the offensive talent....a lot will come down to the line.

Lots of young, returning talent on offense: Austen Arnaud (QB), Alexander Robinson (RB), Bo Williams (RB), Darius Darks (WR), Sedrick Johnson (WR), Marquis Hamilton (WR), Collin Franklin (TE).

Defense was bad, and not much to really mention. Hoping Rhoads can give us a respectable defense that doesn't permit 50 points and 500 yards every game. Best athlete on defense is cornerback Leonard Johnson.

Special teams saw a lot of improvement last year, which is a huge, huge relief for us (not sure how much you know about ISU football, but special teams--particularly field goals--have cost us some big games in the last few years).

have a good crop of RB's and some young WR's that have potential of being very explosive. OL is all back and still a bit of a work in progress. Have a QB that can use his legs and has an above avg. arm strength.

Overall the Offense is very young and will have most of these kids 2-3 years.

I can tell you that if they took a snap from under center this season I didn't see it. Never huddled either.

Rice did something very cool I never saw a team do, after a play they'd immediately get to the line without a play being called but pretend to get ready to call a play and all of a sudden, with about 20 seconds on the Play Clock he entire team would look for the signal from the sideline leaving the defense on their toes and I wouuld imagine annoyed.

A LOT of 1 rb, 1 te, 3 wr sets and also some 4 WR sets only because the TE was a freaking stud that can do it all. Kind of a Dallas Clark type but a better athelete. In fact they would bring him in (out of the shotgun) on most short yardage situations to run the Tebow type offense he was used for as a freshman. He was rarely stopped.

Hmm, I don't have a great answer because not all games were televised and the only games I saw or went to, they put up over 40 pts and dominated. The Vandy and Texas games they were stopped but were playing superior teams, although they were shot for shot with Vandy for 3 quarters. Tulsa who was probably the best team in Conf USA this past year was a draw of a game for the first half and then Tulsa pulled away.

Unfortunately I didn't get to see any of these games so I don't have a great answer.

Welcome aboard. He will have talent at WR 2 will be playmaking sophs, 1 will be Sr, 1 JUCO trans. He will also have a couple good back to work with and a solid QB coming back. The line will be a work in process. There are also a couple good TEs on the team.

Whats the running game like? Watching your bowl game it looks like he will do anything, is that right?
