Do we cover the 24 point spread?

I was going to take OSU, but when i saw that number i thought it was a lil high. I thought it might be 15-20. Oden and co. have to take on defending champ Florida this weekend, so we might not get everything thrown at us. They might lay up in the 2nd and rest for what is a bigger game to them. ISU is very poor ATS this year, but i have faith Greg can keep it crespectable. Hopefully Jiri has learned to play defense in the last couple days.

Re: Do we cover the 24 point spread?

The OSU announcer was on Cotlar this morning and said Oden shoots his FT's with his left hand but uses his right hand for everything else until the wrist is fully healed. Scary that a guy that is still not quite 100% could possibly dominate us. I hope Marsden can at least give us 10 minutes tonight because we need an extra big body in there to at least attempt to slow the big guy down. Can probably forget about us scoring in the paint much tonight too.

Anyone find it crazy that OSU and Florida could be competing for national titles in both FB and basketball in the same years?

I honestly think we need to use the whole bench. INcluding Streff, Cesar, shoot bring back Hester. Just hack the guy if he has to shoot with the wrong hand on free throws.

Re: Do we cover the 24 point spread?

I think the three games shooting with the left hand he is 8-15, 0-3, 2-3; which is just under 50%. He still isn't back to 100% and has played only 20-25 minutes a game so far. Also he doesn't seem to be the focus of their offense yet, just kind of taking what he gets on dunks and putbacks.

My point being that there is a whole lot more to OSU than just Oden, even if he couldn't play at all we would be really out-manned in this game (see the OSU-UNC game without Oden). Even if he hacked-an-Oden and he shot 25% from the line, we still don't have a way to keep their guards out of the lane.

It will be very interesting to see how G-Mac runs this game - that's for sure.

I highly doubt we'll clear the bench - but I wouldn't put it past him.

Re: Do we cover the 24 point spread?

The problem with that idea, he is a better free throw shooter with his wrong hand then most of our team. I remember hearing he made like 20 in a row with his left hand in practice.

    Very good point.

And about the comment of making 20 in a row with the other hand in practice - that's practice folks. Remember how Shaggy always makes the kicks in practice? Games are a different story.

It's not Shaggy's fault he's the best we have. LOL...that brought back some older memories of past discussions.

OSU guards are just as good as their low post play. They have 7-8 guys that would start for 90% of the Div. 1 teams...Matta is building an empire there.

Re: Do we cover the 24 point spread?

I didn't want to bring up a past discussion - just making a point that doing well in practice and recreating that in a game - is tough to do.

I can shoot well from the line too at the gym. Put me in an arena with thousands of fans - I'll likely wet myself first.

Now, Oden is used to that - but a game for him is still very different from practice.

Re: Do we cover the 24 point spread?

Oden is downright scary. We pretty much are going top want to do away with our post game tonight, and really try to open up the perimeter. If we can hit our 3's tonight, I think we will easily cover the spread. If not, its going to be a long game.

Me thinks on offense, Jiri will be hiding from Oden - behind the 3-point line.

    Eeek.

I think beating the spread is up to one person: Thad Matta

If he wants to call off the dogs early we might have a chance. If not, the spread will be covered with ease. Remember..we lost to Iowa by almost 20!

Re: Do we cover the 24 point spread?

The point that 'ripvdub' was trying to make is that OSU would be over looking ISU. That is easy for a team to do...if the team does not think that they have to play hard and they can just show up and beat a perceived 'bad' team on their home court that is when they are down a 1/2 and get beat by 12. So in looking at the game from the aspect of a team just showing up and not taking care of the little things, yes i'm nervous. This is one of those games where the home team only wins by 10-15 the "experts" say it should have been a much larger victory. But if the home team wins by 30-35 all of a sudden the home team has very large cranium's.
