    BCS Bowl Conference tie-ins

When the BCS started it was neat because it broke the old conference tie ins to bowls. Now it seems they are back to tieing a conference to certin bowls each year. Why did they go back to doing it this way? If you are USC dont you get tired of playing in the Rose Bowl every year? Why did the Big 12 lose the Orange Bowl tie-in? I say go back and open it back up, give us something a little different than USC running all over a Big 132323 team.

I say let the Rose Bowl keep Big 10 vs. Pac 10, the rest of the country go to a playoff system.

First, I highly doubt USC ever gets tired of playing in the Rose Bowl - they get to go to a BCS game and most of them likely get to sleep in their own bed that evening. Second, they don't get tired of it for the same reason why Big 10 schools don't get tired of being USC's ***** - they're too tied to the tradition of it all.

They never experience the cold. They schedule it that way.

I could be wrong, but I believe they have always tried whenever possible to keep the tie-ins, with the exception of the NC game. Like I said tho, I could be wrong

Iowa State didn't even stay in Ames on Friday nights before home games.

    Re: BCS Bowl Conference tie-ins

The bowls have always had their tie-ins with the BCS. The whole point of the BCS was to keep the tie-ins as much as possible, while providing a way for #1 to play #2. There have been situations in the past that have made it impossible to keep the tie-ins, due to the way the BCS selection process works.

I'd say it is easier to keep the tie-ins since they added the 5th BCS game that didn't exist before.

Isn't this why the +1 NC game came about... you pretty much get to keep the tie-ins except for one at large from a non-bcs school gets in now.

The NC game came about, ostensibly, to allow more access to the BCS for mid-majors.

It also has the benefit of making it a lot easier for the bowl games to keep their tie-ins, since they will mostly have a shot at an at-large from their conference tie-in.

The Big 12 never had an Orange Bowl tie-in. The old Big 8 sent it's champion to the Orange Bowl for many years, but that ended with creation of the BCS.

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.
