    Petey was dominant today

He was everywhere and doing everything. His line was not incredible, but if you were there, you saw how he controlled the floor. Had a tenth of a second touch pass to Brackins for the monster dunk that made you think Hornecek or Blaylock was dishing it. Also made one of the smartest plays i ever seen that caused a turnover. Brackins was cold at times but really ramped it up for most of the game. It was great to see him make his 1st 2 ft's. The offense was actually smooth and running on all cylinders for large chunk of the game. Wes was pretty solid had some tough luck on his shot though, in n out. Hamilton i think is a key for the offense and Brackins, he seems to be more patient and not as flustered when Hamilton is in.

    Re: Petey was dominant today

Petey gets more out of his talent and ability than anyone, and often has a better game than his "stats" would indicate. It's good to have him as a Cyclone team leader.

I've said earlier that you see some Jacy Holloway in his game. He just makes some smart basketball plays at times that reminds me of Jacy. And a lot of pure hustle plays.

    Re: Petey was dominant today

Did anyone else see his catch and lob to Brackins for the dunk while in the air in the second half.

I think I can say that is the best non-Rahshon play I've seen since Mac took over this program.

    Re: Petey was dominant today

Yeah that was a crazy pass. He was running along the sideline, jumped, caught the ball behind the three point line on the wing and while still in the air, through a perfect alley-oop to Brackins.

    Re: Petey was dominant today

BP's a rebounding machine! He sets a great example for the others, and plays very smart ball, a true leader on the floor. While he's not flashy, he's almost always in the right place and plays pretty solid defense against guys with more speed and stronger skills. Give us a team full of Petey's, and we'd be all right, a little on the short side, but surely a pleasure to watch.

He represents the school and the athletics dept. well, and gives it his all every game. You can't ask for much more out of someone. I think he'll leave his mark on Cyclone athletics long after he is gone with the impression he leaves on his teammates that will pass on to others in the future.

I didnt think I would ever say this but he will be missed next year. He seems to make his threes at times when everyone else is missing.

    Re: Petey was dominant today

I wish he had one more year, but maybe a grad assistant thing could work out.

I enjoyed his radio interview as POTG, when John Walters chuckles, mentions that Petey is listed at 6'1", and you hear both he and Petey chuckle. Then they talk about rebounding.

One thing that this team is showing me is that they can all emerge into good players and be embraced by Cyclone fans. Petey wasn't real popular last year, and this year he's a favorite.

It's all making progress. Now we'll just go ahead and never lose again

    Re: Petey was dominant today

The Mercer game was a real enjoyable game to watch. From my vantage point the team probably executed the "game plan" from start to finish as well as any team for the past several years. The ball movement by our offense was the best I have seen it all year.

When Pete was moved to guard Florence (0) in the second half, Florence became a non-factor and actually sat for a good portion of time. Also, the double teaming on Emerson by our bigs seemed to work well no matter who we had in the game. Emerson had been averaging a double-double and really got shut down.

Boozer is showing some real progress. He came in and guarded Mercer's best three point shooter and really did a fine job of "hounding" him. At one point Boozer had an open look at a three and didn't take it...you could hear McD shouting "shoot the ball Booz". McD is really giving Charles a good opportunity because of the defense he has been displaying.

If the team keeps giving this type of effort, we will be watching some fun ball. Hats off for an outstanding game.

At the risk of sounding positive again, think about two of the things you posted there:

    1) Petey was a defensive stopper against a guy that torched us in the first half. You could see his guy try to frive past him in the 2nd half, but Petey's footwork was denying the drive.

    2) I keep posting it, but Boozer plays defense now. Not flashy defense, but solid, "I will hound you and know what you had for lunch/dinner/snack/whatever defense." He doesn't look lost, looking around. He knows his role, and exactly how to do it. And then he runs the offense, instead of chucking it as soon as he has the ball.

Solid guys and solid coaching led to a nice, systematic big vicrtory. Never felt seriously in doubt, and the team played like they expected to go out and earn a victory.

That was fun. Good post outta you!

    Re: Petey was dominant today

Best game of the year. We looked great. We moved the ball and EVERYBODY played well. That is the first time all year that everybody played well at the same time

Craig is learning to pass out of the double. With our shooters this is going to be HUGE in Big 12 play.

Our defense is becoming more solid. Hamilton is blocking shots and clogging up the middle.

We are moving the ball 10X quicker than we were 2 games ago. It is a night and day team
