    ISU MBB - Youth's difficulties explained . . .

Insight about how a college basketball team develops, and why so much youth is a problem, and why upperclass leadership is so vital to a squad's success.

Note Petersen's quote about DG's mistakes last year and DG's cluelessness about what he was doing wrong. Verrrrrrry interesting, in my book.

From today's Ames Tribune (link below):

When the Cyclones resumed practice this fall, McDermott slid Bryan Petersen to off guard and made Garrett the permanent point.

Petersen said the change has led to stronger on-court leadership, with both points and often fellow guards like Lucca Staiger working as a collective to run the offense.

He also said Garrett has grown into the new role.

“Last year when he made a mistake he didn’t really know why he did it or what the mistake was,” Petersen said. “This year he might still make the mistake, but he knows why and he can correct it. He knows right away what he should have done.”

Again, how many first-year Div. IA players do we have on the roster?

    Go Cyclones - Mr. Personality

    Also from the story:

He knew he would regain his confidence penetrating the paint in the weight room, not on the court, so Garrett added close to 25 pounds to his starting weight as a freshman.
