    NBA suspends 7 players...fines both teams $500k

    Early report from CNN.com...

The NBA suspended seven players, including Denver star Carmelo Anthony for 15 games, for their roles in Saturday's brawl at the end of the Nuggets-Knicks game, the AP reports. Each team was fined $500,000.

But there was no separate penalty for Knicks coach Isiah Thomas, who had warned Anthony not to go into the lane before the mayhem started Saturday night.
There was speculation Thomas would be penalized for his comments to Anthony. Stern acknowledged hearing about it, but said he relied only on "definitive information" when handing out punishments.
Huh? No evidence? It was on video...what more do you need?

I just don't get why Thomas was not fined or suspended for a game. He was a great player - so what. You're a coach now and live under different rules. Ya don't deserve a free pass just because you could play ball.

I suspect you need it on audio, since the matter revolves around spoken comments...

Don't worry, the ultimate consequence for this whole mess will just be more reason to fire Thomas at the end of the season. Seems like all Thomas does is mess up franchise. He ruined Toronto, he was not a very good coach in Indy and Larry Bird canned him before he could screw things up too much more and now he's put the Knicks in a position where they have a bunch of overpaid, underachieving guys that no one wants in a trade, lost 2 lotto picks to the Bulls, and the payroll is a complete mess for several more years before they'll ever have a chance to do anything in free agency again.

Yup, I'd say Thomas will be the biggest loser in this mess come the end of the season.

It was pretty clear what he said - audio or not.

At some point...the coaches need to be held responsible for these brawls. Especially when Thomas had some level of involvement, clearly telling Anthony not to go to the basket.

It's the Knicks responsibility to stop Anthony - not himself or his teammates.

Couldn't have said it better, Thomas is good at two things: playing point guard for the Pistons, and ruining franchises post retirement

How does a coach not get suspended for pretty much saying "Don't take the ball into the paint" and then 1 minute later there is a flagerant foul (and a bad one at that) that turns into a brawl?!

How does the guy who committed the foul only get 6 games? That foul started the frickin' thing!

I'm just ****** that I don't get to watch Carmelo play for the next 15 games...oh wait, I don't watch it anyway (because of things like this).

Flagrant fouls happen during games, and that's why there are specific rules to deal with them when they happen during the game. No doubt, that foul was hard, and flagrant, but I've seen (and been on the receiving end) of worse.

The problem was not the flagrant foul. The problem is with the macho trash talking punk players (and coaches, if what what has been said about Thomas is true ) who have no respect for the game and see the need to take things into their own hands. There are rules in place to handle flagrant fouls.

I believe a flagrant foul in the NBA is an ejection ... and possibly an automatic one-game suspension, somebody help me out on the exact rule.

Depending on the amount of contact the league would've likely handed out a fine as well.

It would have been real swell had both teams been forced to forfeit the game.

Of course, the Knicks would not have cared - being the game was already decided.

I would just like to see all sports adopt the idea that any sort of major brawl calls the game and both teams forfeit. Hand out suspensions and fines from there - but end the damn game - regardless of when in the game it takes place.

Anyone see George Karl's comments yesterday? I think ESPN.com has a link to the video somewhere. He basically went off on Thomas and used several explicitives to describe what he thought of him. Have to say I agreed with just about everything he said too. :)

Yeah, I heard about it yet didn't see it. I can't blame him either.

Do a little research on Thomas and you will not like what you find...a little arrogant ***** if you ask me.

A few incidents are mentioned in the "Controversy" section. And there are a lot more incidents than that.

Letterman was have a payday cracking jokes about this brawl last night too. Even made his Top 10 list which was "Top 10 Miss USA excuses." #4 was "It's Issiah Thomas' fault."

My favorite comedian Frank Caliendo was on the show last night as John Madden (he does this on the Fox NFL show and on MadTV too as well as several other very good impersonations.) He was talking about turkey and stuff and came up with this thing called Turduckendilla. Was some kind of combo of turkey, duck, chicken, and fajitas I think. Also couldn't have been a Madden skit if he didn't talk about Brett Favre and even claimed LT was the "Brett Favre of running backs." If you are ever looking for funny Caliendo clips do a search for Summeral and Madden do Titanic. Summerall: "We've hit an iceberg, the waters to the 20... to the 25... we're going down!" Then Madden comes in and you can just imagine him with the highlighter describing what happened, funny funny stuff!

Let's see, everything he touches goes to crap practically.

Toronto Raptors: need we say more, they are going nowhere thanks to the mess he left them
Indiana Pacers: Never did much as a coach, underachieved then Larry Bird fired him before he could completely ruin them.
CBA League: ran the league into the ground
Knicks: hahahahahaha! Traded away salary cap space and 2 lotto picks for Eddy Curry, also blew cap space on the likes of Crawford, Marbury, and Francis who he deemed gave the Knicks "trade assets" when in reality no one wants to trade for any 3 of those guys and their bloated contracts.
