    Malzahn Hired at Auburn

Malzahn hired as new Auburn offensive coordinator - The Auburn Beat - al.com

I guess we won't be getting Malzahn as our OC. Who would be as good or better for us?

Gene is putting together a nice staff. I for one think he will eventually have success. He was great in developing guys. As much as i will hate to see it, Gene will do ok.

So, does this mean that Malzahn was coming to Ames?

    Oh, well. Good for Auburn.

It's too bad that Chizik couldn't have lured him to Ames last year.

If by "developing" you mean "firing" and "demoting", then I agree.

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

Or maybe this is part of a sinister plot to take over college football?

    Re: Malzahn Hired at Auburn

Let's face it, his biggest problem was that his coordinators weren't up to the task. He figured that out here finally, and will get it right there. A HC is only as good as the coaches he hires. Johnny Major and Earle Bruce were perfect examples, and even DM, when he had good coaches under him, he suceeded.

    Re: Malzahn Hired at Auburn

I'm sure we'll hire a Joe Nobody and then we'll all read his bio and decide he is better than Malzahn.

    Sucks...would've love Malzahn in Ames.

    Point to Gene for now.

Gene will do better his first year at Auburn than at Iowa State, because of the fact he has better talent and a crappy non-conference schedule.

This would be the same Malzahn that got his first non high school job because he could deliver a stud (well..maybe) quarterback to Arkansas? I don't think we missed much. Give Paul a chance to put a staff together before we crucify him for who he gets.

Actually it was 5 studs. He was really a brilliant young mind and will show it in the upcoming years, but doesn't have much for connections recruiting wise, but still would have been a huge hire for us.

We should hire the Indianola football coach as our offensive cordinator as he runs the spread offense.

Sorry you are right it was five but if I am not mistaken two of them play for USC now don't they.
