    Re: Computer People

I doubt you have 384M of ram. That seems horribly low.

    I guess you could have a 256M stick and a 128M stick.

Anyway, you need to find the speed and type of the memory, is this a homebuilt machine or is it a name brand?

    Re: Computer People

Take the $100 you would spend on ram and buy a new cheap PC. The one you have now is about 4 years old and I wouldn't waste my money to try and upgrade.

    Re: Computer People

It is entirely possible he has 384, although it would be laughable. Instead of buying more memory for an AMD 3300, even though it is dirt cheap, you should just buy a new PC.

    Re: Computer People

Oh come on, if all he's doing is checking email and surfing the web, 1.81Ghz is more than enough to handle it. In that case, upgrading RAM would be a good move.

However, if you're doing anything more than surfing the web, it probably is time to invest in a new computer, or at least a new processor. It all depends on what you use your computer for, and how good of shape all the other parts are in. Never fear- we're happy to help you figure out what's best for you!

It's also possible that you have 512mb but some is allocated to an integrated video chipset - quite common.

Memory upgrades from Crucial.com - Determine My Memory Needs

Looks like I have 512MB so does this mean for 61 dollars I could upgrade for 2G? I feel like 2G is a lot (not running Vista) but for 61 dollars why not?

Let me know what you guys think! Thanks a lot!

    Re: Computer People

Places like NewEgg.com are MUCH cheaper for just as good, or even better, quality. Below is a quick listing at NewEgg for similar modules. Just make sure to get something that can handle 2.6v, very common...

    Newegg.com - DDR PC3200, 2GB (2 x 1GB), Desktop Memory)
