That may be all we can hope to win this year. That and Mike Taylor leading the NCAA in turnovers.

Re: Wesley Johnson - A shot at Big 12 freshman/newcomer of the year?

I haven't seen the newcomers from the other Big 12 teams, but Wesley is silky smooth and obviously has a lot of talent. I see improvement from Taylor as far as turnovers.....how many did he have today? I was thinking toward the end there that it is nice to have a guy who isn't afraid to take a shot at the end of the game. If he can improve his shot selection and ball control, he will be alright.

Not a diss against Johnson.... but Durrant is in the Big 12 and I don't see anyone else winning it. But he should very well be on the big 12 frosh team.

Re: Wesley Johnson - A shot at Big 12 freshman/newcomer of the year?

Kevin Durant of Texas is a mortal lock for Big 12 freshman of the year / newcomer of the year. And maybe even Big 12 player of the year as well. Fortunately for all Big 12 teams, he's probably the #2 or #3 player in the 2007 draft also.

Obi Muonelo as Oklahoma State is having a huge impact as a freshman on a team that will vie for the Big 12 title, he's probably the second best freshman right now, in my opinion.

Wesley has a good chance to make the all Big 12, but there are a lot of good freshman in the Big 12. My vote right now would be (in order):

    All Freshman
    -------------
    Kevin Durant, Texas
    Obi Muonelo, Oklahoma State
    Stephon Hannah, Missouri
    Wesley Johnson, Iowa Statem
    Darrell (Shady) Arthur, Kansas

    Consideration also for:
    -------------
    Josh Carter, Texas A&M
    Ryan Anderson, Nebraska

Don't forget about Bill Walker, either, who starts his eligibility today.

ya durant will prob get it, even if johnson plays better and has better stats it wont really matter because he isnt at texas

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

Johnson should have a shot at the All Big XII freshmen team. But it will be almost impossible for anyone to beat Durrant.

Re: Wesley Johnson - A shot at Big 12 freshman/newcomer of the year?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but freshman cant win newcomer of the year. Isn't that reserved for JUCO's and transfers? I would say that award would have to go to Hannah from Mizzou. (So far anyway)

I'm not sure lennon, that's why I put them both - because I couldn't recall how the awards worked.

Thanks for the info about Durrant - forgot about him.

Wesley will be in consideration for honors, but playing on a bad team won't help his chances.

It's good that he is the bright spot, that will make him standout more, I'd say.

i was right, there is a freshmen of the year award and a newcomer of the year award.

    i did a search on big12sports.com

I think he's got the talent for it but our record will keep him from winning it.

Re: Wesley Johnson - A shot at Big 12 freshman/newcomer of the year?

He'll be on the all-freshman team, but the team won't be good enough for him to win it.

Also, Stephon Hannah is a juco transfer, so he won't be on the all freshman team either. He went to the same juco as mike taylor.
