It seems to me, with position coaches being hired - Paul knows (or has a very good idea) who will be his OC/DC but both guys are coaching bowl games and are not available right now.

Bleil is a solid hire. I'm glad he's not the offensive coordinator although his resume looks to be every bit as good as McFarland's. I'm guessing that Rhoads and Bleil will now work together to find an offensive coordinator.

Could be a good hire. I do however think we really need to start hiring some black position coaches and either a black D Cord or O cord to the staff.

I agree. With Rhoads' experience on D and Bleil's experience on O, I hope they hire up-and-comers at both of the coordinator positions. Maybe someone like James Willis for D-coordinator and Tony Alford for O-coordinator. No offense to McFarland and Bolt, but I never liked hiring guys who have been coordinators for almost their whole career. I'd rather hire someone who is hungry to prove themself. Look at Turner Gill's staff at Buffalo. His coordinators got their first chance at Buffalo.

I agree - and i have two names to throw out there.....

Everyone has been saying including me, that James Willis would be a great DC and a great recruiter. Young guy, great, great recruiter, but, my guess is that Chizik will not let him go far.

For offense, what about Erik Campbell of Iowa (only one year). He's the wide receivers coach and very well respected as one of the best coaches at any position, while at Michigan had more all americans at receiver then any other school over the past 10 years. And his recruiting at the top level. One other name on the OC side from Auburn is Eddie Gran - heck of a recruiter, but, i'm guessing the Gene will keep him on for his recruiting if nothing else.

James Willis might be a little inexperienced for a coordinator job. He has only been a position coach (not counting his time as a grad assistant) since 2004, and he has only coached linebackers. David Blackwell has been coaching since 1993 and has coached multiple positions as well as being a recruiting coordinator. He is probably more qualified.

It would make more sense to me to hire coordinators before assistants so the coordinators could have some input on the assistants who would be implementing their system. Maybe the coordinators have already been selected just not announced and are giving their input behind he scenes.

I doubt he's already selected his coordinators, although he might have a good idea on them. Since they know each other, I think Bleil is basically going to be Rhoads' right hand man and, as somebody else already said, may even help in selecting and recruiting the coordinators.
