    IBM Laptop

So my laptop won't turn work. Everytime I try to turn it on it goes to the black screen where you can choose to start normally, etc. It tries to fire up, but always returns to that screen.
Any technoclones that know what's up?

Sounds to me like a data or hard drive issue. Could be data corruption, virus infection, or a bad hard drive.

There is probably a ******* filter in the firewall. Have you tried to not be so lame?

I initially thought this was the case. I knew I should have stayed away from your mom's Web cam site. Gave me a virus.

Do I sound like a complete moron (not in general either) if I ask how to fix it? Or should I destroy it and throw it away to make sure all my porn won't fall into the wrong hands?

    Re: IBM Laptop

well can you get to the advanced boot options menu? (to do this while the computer is starting up hit F8 till it shows, must be done right away after power on)

If not put your windows CD and boot from it and goto the recovery console. You will have to select a partion likely C:, and then enter the admin password which is likely nothing.

once you get the command prompt type chkdsk /r this will check for corruption to the hard drive. If that doesn't work, then go back to the recovery console and try the command fixboot. If those don't work it still may be possible to fix it, but you would then need access to a external hard drive enclosure and a second computer

    Re: IBM Laptop

I'd try reinstalling Windows first, if it's still doing that on reinstall then you have a hardware problem. We have this exact problem with our IBM laptops at work some times and it's usually 50/50 chance it's a corrupt Windows install or a hard drive on the fritz. Your might have a built in hard drive utility in the BIOS that you can run to check for bad sectors.
