    NFL Overtime

Ok well I have always thought that the NFL needs to implement college footballs overtime rule. After seeing Green Bay lose again in overtime, I wish they would implement this rule next year. Green Bay dominated this game and should not of lost. Granted they should of never been in overtime but when something like this happens, the other team should be able to have a chance at winning the game as well or tying it up. The game shouldnt be decided on a coin flip.

    It wasn't.

GB self destructed and deserved to lose this game.

I don't like the NFL overtime much, but this was GB's game to win and they lost it.

They screwed this game for themselves. I don't feel sorry for them, even though a win woulda put the vikes in the playoffs.

    Re: NFL Overtime

For some reason Green Bay cant close a game. They have done this all year. I think they have lost like 5 or 6 games by late field goals.

But that really wasnt my point here. I just dont think its fair for the other team(any team that is) not to get a chance. A coin flip almost always decides the games.

It's actually about 60% of the time, IIRC.

I don't like it that much either. I like the college game better overall, as well.

The easy solution is to win the game in regulation, and then it's not an issue.

    Re: NFL Overtime

They need to make the rule that both teams will get the ball once not the stupid college rule of starting at the 25!

    Re: NFL Overtime

Not to mention the coin hitting off Chicago's helmet before it hit the ground...although there is no interference rule for the coin flip, that I know of...just a good way of using your head...er helmet that works in your favor. I don't like the NFL overtime rule either. My Kansas City Chiefs always seem to come up on the losing end of overtime...or maybe they just tend to come up on the losing end period...

    Re: NFL Overtime

I would like to see an eight minute overtime period, sonething similar to what they do in basketball. That way both teams get the ball unless one team puts together the mother of all drives

    Re: NFL Overtime

Lets make the overtime a field goal shootout type thing. First kicker to make 10 field goals from 50 yards the fastest, his team wins

Really, a coin flip decided the game? I thought it was horrible special teams play and the inability to capitalize off of turnovers. Were you complaining last year about overtime when we beat Denver?

    Re: NFL Overtime

Yeah, the Packers blew the game. While the original poster is obviously biased, let's step back and look at the actual premise of the thread and not focus on one particular game. No sample size of one game is valid.

I've yet to see an argument for why the NFL's OT policy is a good one. Does anyone have one?

    Re: NFL Overtime

I wish they would develope a simialar style to college, but instead of the 25 start them out around the 50 so they would actually have to move the ball if the other team turned the ball over or missed a field goal. The only thing I dislike from the college rule is that it takes kick coverage and returns out of the game. I also like the idea of the 8 minute OT and whoever is winning at the end of it.
