New Book Alleges General Patton Was Murdered

I knew he had a falling out with President Eik, who demoted the field General to a desk job, but this book alleges Patton so miffed he was going to expose a collusion between the Allied / American pact with the Russians that was responsible for killing Americans. WTH? Has anybody ever heard of this rumor, or is somebody trying to rewrite history?

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...-new-book.html

George S. Patton, America's greatest combat general of the Second World War, was assassinated after the conflict with the connivance of US leaders, according to a new book

The newly unearthed diaries of a colourful assassin for the wartime Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the forerunner of the CIA, reveal that American spy chiefs wanted Patton dead because he was threatening to expose allied collusion with the Russians that cost American lives.

The death of General Patton in December 1945, is one of the enduring mysteries of the war era. Although he had suffered serious injuries in a car crash in Manheim, he was thought to be recovering and was on the verge of flying home

Not saying this information is incorrect, but his falling out was with General Eisenhower. Ike was not elected President until 1952, seven years after Patton's Death. IT is pretty difficult to digest some of these "new" version history books. It is almost as if they were written with an Oliver Stone conspiracy theory movie in mind.

Re: New Book Alleges General Patton Was Murdered

Patton has always been a subject of fascination for me. Both books that I have read about him- War as I knew it (a****iography) and Patton-Genius for war, alluded to the possibility, and the strange circumstances around his death. He certainly had no shortage of enemies, from his outspoken demeanor, to his enlistment of Nazis to govern post-war Germany and his open desire to continue the war against the Russians. However, I do not see how any decisive evidence could be found at this point.

The theory he was murdered has been in existence since 1945, it is just being repackaged in this book.

Wes Eikmeier was president? Anyway, I suppose if one were to channel Oliver Stone, you could make a case for one of Patton's enemies to want to take him out, but it certainly wouldn't have been the US/Ike. Generals who overstep and don't play nice are shown the door like Macarthur.

Various theories about the unusual nature of Patton's death have floated around for awhile. The Patton Museum at Fort Knox has a ton of primary sources on it, but nothing beyond innuendo exists.

And, while I wasn't actually there at his death, I've worked at the Patton museum in 1987-88 and am pretty intimate with the "death car" (it's been fully restored) as well as most of his accoutrements.

The curator at the museum is an Iowan, btw. A Mr. Charles Lemon is his name, I believe.

I caught a few blurbs of his bio on the History channel and one of the presenters talked about how Patton thought he existed in previous lives as an infantry man with some Greek, or ancient Persian army....suggesting that he believed he was reincarnated.

Don't know how accurate it may or may not be, but that's an underlying theme in the movie Patton. How he believes he was a part of many battles of the past and it's his destiny to lead the troops into Berlin etc. Always been one of my favorite movies.

The book claims that the "death car" in the Patton museum is a hoax or in other words it was not the car Patton was driving when he was injured.

Yeah, I've heard that. It also alleges a "door-knob gun", which was a plot device in some 1970s spy-thriller movie.

The question is; is this a case of life imitating art, or vice-versa?

Honestly I don't remember. I know they allude to this in the movie Patton, and I know Patton was an historian, and a man who keenly saw his place in historical context. The movie was based on a book by General Omar Bradley, a guy who was certainly not a Patton fan. Whether that book embellished that part- I'm not sure.
