ISU the "Cubs" of the NCAA?

First off this is not intended as a negative post at all, but rather a positive view of our fan support through tough times

Basically as I was driving home from Ames today, my mind got wandering and I started to think that our Cyclones are kinda like the "loveable losers" of the MLB, my team the Chicago Cubs.

Now before I'm jumped on for calling my team losers, I mean in W-L records purely. I love the Cyclones with all my heart but we have had 3 straight seasons of 14/15 win bball and 9 combined wins in the past 3 years in football. All the while, we continue to have tremendous support from the fan base, even though the team is not producing championships, much less many wins.

I compare to the Cubs because as we all know the world series winless streak since 08, havent been in the world series since '45 etc, but even with this lack of production, the Cubs manage to sell out nearly every game, even when they arent in contention.

I was really pleased to see the numbers of fans still showing up this season after most knew the season was a wash, especially the Missouri game when it was FREEZING cold out.

All in all, I just wanted to commend the Cyclone faithful for their passion for ISU and support of the teams and just ask for that continued support, through thick and thin and help the teams win. As been apparent from quotes from many players and recruits our fan base is very important to them in their decision to come to Iowa State and to stay here.

    Happy holidays and Go State!

I'd actually consider Iowa State the Montreal Expos of College Football.

In football we've been above .500 in the conference twice in the past 30 years. Even the Cubs can top that.

Now, now. Don't be rude. You should say "our fans are nowhere near as mentally challenged as Cubs fans".

I would never wish us to be compared to the most pathetic and sad sports team of all time. Please never do that again. We dont have to lower ourselves to say wait til next year every year.

Re: ISU the "Cubs" of the NCAA?

Do the math. The Cubs compete against approximately 30 teams for the championship. The Cyclones compete against 110. It's been 100 years since the Cubs won it all. Statistically, that means ISU has about another 275 years to match the Cubs statistically...
