If you are thinking about driving north today

dont do it! The wind picked up about 15 minutes ago and is now blowing around the 8 inches of snow we got yesterday. I am on a farm in north central iowa and I can not see more than 50 yards and the driveway is already blown full of snow.

Same in Northwest Iowa. Blizzard and not even snowing.

Re: If you are thinking about driving north today

I always say it will take one hell of a blizzard to keep me from driving up to Ames for a basketball game, but it's starting to sound like that's exactly what is happening today. I guess I'll have to keep an eye on it. Thanks for the info, anyone in the Ames area it would be appreciated if you'd keep us posted throughout the day!

Re: If you are thinking about driving north today

Headed up I 35 at 9 this morning and turned around at Ames because there were already 10 cars in the ditches and I had helped one get out. It was enough to make me turn around simply because what they were expecting hasn't even hit yet.

Driving in Ames this morning wasn't too bad. Normal winter driving. With all the traffic it took me 15-30 minutes to cross town th9ough. Hopefully by tonight that won't be an issue. The intersections are a little slippery (slush).

The side roads may or may not be plowed.

I can see 35/80 from my upstairs window, so I usually watch the traffic speed to judge the roads before I even leave my house. Right now I can't even see 35/80, and it's about a quarter mile away.

It may be cold, blustery, and challenging, but the Gene ice is melting as the Rhoads become passable.

    Try the roof?

Since you drive an Impala, previous offer still stands. We can put a shovel in our car, and come dig you out from the ditch.

    Awesome.

Wind in Ames picked up about 10 minutes ago. Wife and I were just talking about 20 minutes ago about how lame it is that we have winter storm or blizzard watches every time there's a little snow, then BANG- huge wind gusts, blowing snow. Not sure how the roads are still, but the overall conditions are pretty bad.

Was anyone else personally mad at Chizik when scooping the driveway yesterday? "Stupid Chizik. I bet he doesn't have to scoop snow in Alabama. What a jerk. I hope his old house is covered in snow. Left me here in cold Ames to shovel snow all winter..."

Re: If you are thinking about driving north today

I live in North Ames, the wind just picked up here awhile ago. In town it is blowing to where you can't see to well to the other side of the street, so I imagine in the open areas it is pretty nasty.

So, anyone else going up to Ames from Ankeny?

We are thinking of going up early for a little Welch Ave. and then to the game.
