    You knew it was coming...

How is Alex Thompson looking? I know we've heard about how good he looks in practice from Iowa fans and ISU fans alike, but is he gaining weight, playing hard, manning the 4 or 5? Other than that DMR puff piece on him a few weeks ago there really hasn't been much word on him. The roster lists him at 230 and if he can gain 10-15 more pounds I think he can fill a great defensive role that is really lacking from this year's squad. We'll see about the offense (I've never seen him comfortable in a game) but his defense has always been solid and I think he can really play well down low if he does pack on a few more pounds.

Because I don't see him on the court, I almost forgot about him. With Thompson, Marsden, Hubalek, & Brackins our front court should be greatly improved next year. Throw in Cory Johnson & Wesley Johnson as forwards, & I get fairly optomistic about next year's team.

Didn't AT have a tendency to drift outside (on offense) last year with the Squawks? Hopefully, GMac can train him to stay on the post and fill it up. He'll definitely be a welcome addition next season!

We can always use another big who never stays on the block.

Yes...but maybe it was a product of Alford's motion offensive. With GMac's sets, it would be easier to keep him on the block. He will be a nice addition.

And the hawks got baldy (brunner) and lanky (hansen) down low, so they slipped thompson out.

Re: You knew it was coming...

While with Iowa I was never impressed with AT but I'm throwing that all completely out the window and starting a fresh page with him. After seeing him play in the Capital City league and completely dominate Jiri in the championship game I have hope that a change of scenery and a good coach will bring out the best in him. It's not like Alford is a great coach at developing players so I take that into consideration too. All I ever need to do is bring up the name Glen Worley when talking about that and Hawk fans will roll their eyes on how supposedly the best HS player in the state practically got worse every season under Alford.

Best player in Iowa high school? Hasn't he caused problems everywhere?
Started at Gilbert....not good enough for him, went to Ames....troubles there with the coach?, went to Iowa.....didn't play enough. Came back to ISU....he'll have to prove himself to me.

Re: You knew it was coming...

I was talking about Worley was the best player in the state at the time he committed to Iowa...

Alex was one of the top if not the top Iowa HS player as well. He did have problems with some coaches but do you really think that will be an issue with GMac? If he wants to cause problems he won't play or be on the team, it's that simple.

Yeah that's right, Glen Worley, he's easy to forget.

That's what makes GMac one of the best. Hope teams enjoy beating the clones this year, because GMac's in town and it won't be long!

I know some of the women's bball players and they said thompson is by far the best player on the team when they watched him practice.

I am not so sure you can add Hubakek to that list. He is not playing well, and I'm not expecting much from him.
