    Minnesota

We haven't proven ourselves to be the top twenty team some of us had hoped for. We haven't beaten a significant rpi team yet. Our sos is 146. Minnesota comes in at #47 fresh off a loss to rpi # 10 South Dakota State. They do own a win over rpi # 57 Boston College. A win will help dilute the fiasco at # 33 Iowa. Best part for me this weekend is my bride and I will make it to Ames. I realize it is too early to put a lot of faith in RPI, but, it is a measuring stick. We may need this come selection Monday.

I've posted a couple of times that I think this igame is going to be a big indicator of how the rest of the season is going to go.

Minnesota is good so a loss wouldn't be the end of the world, but we absolutely cannot lay another egg like the Stanford and Iowa games.

    Re: Minnesota

I'm a casual Minnesota fan and have been to two of their games this year at the Colorado tournament - the Gophers are my second favorite WBB team, as I have family that follows them as closely as I do the Twister Sisters.

Anyway, at the beginning the season I thought this was an automatic win for the Cyclones. But Minnesota actually has good outside shooting this year. The key to a win is making sure that Katie Ohm doesn't get hot from behind the arc and us being able to handle their physical play.

I also saw Colorado play a couple of times and Wow, they are bad!

    Re: Minnesota

On the topic of SDSU, it's pretty incredible what they've accomplished. This is only their 5th season of Div I. They did make three straight Div II elite eight appearances (including one NC) right before switching up to Div I, but their Div I success is impressive.

Two years ago (in their 3rd Div I season) they won two games in the postseason WNIT. Last season was their first in a Div I conference (Summit League), and they responded by winning the conference with a 16-2 league record. Apparently the Summit League didn't get an auto berth, so SDSU went back to the WNIT, where Creighton knocked them out.

This season they only have one loss, a neutral court loss to Maryland by 12 points. They've handed Wisconsin their only loss so far this season (Wisconsin went on to beat Baylor), and they hold two road wins over RPI top-50 opponents (Minnesota and Gonzaga).

Yes, I'm sure quite a few AD's from the power conferences have their coach, Aaron Johnston, in their sights. Good luck on SDSU keeping him after this year...

    Re: Minnesota

Can we get a CyBookie on this? Fortunately I wasn't dumb enough to bet my whole Christmas gift from Jeremy on the men's game last night, but I'm feeling kind of stupid today....

To correct myself, it looks like the Summit League does get an auto berth, but SDSU was not yet eligible to participate in the NCAA Tournament. This year is the first year they are eligible.
