    Volleyball semi-finals

Did anyone watch the semi-final games last night on ESPN2? They were incredible.

In the first game, Texas was up 2-0 on Stanford and then Stanford won 3 straight sets to win the match - first time in 26 years there has been a comeback like that in the semi's.

In the second match, Nebraska was up 2-0 on Penn State, who had not even lost a single set since last seasons national championship match! Penn State won 3 sets in a row and ended up winning 3-2.

There was over 17,000 people in attendance and the crowd was deafening. Volleyball is starting to get very popular, I wouldn't be surprised to see it starting to become an option for boys in the near future (in Iowa).

While on live TV, Ford used a vulgar term to describe a private part of the female anatomy, adding that he was “happily married” and “got more than enough to eat at home.”

    Re: Volleyball semi-finals

I watched the second game (Nebby vs. Penn State). Didn't Penn State get up 2-0 and then Nebby came back to tie it 2-2. And then Penn state won the last set 15-12 or something?

Either way, it was a pretty awesome match. I think the attendance was so high since it was in Omaha and Nebraska was in the semi's. Still pretty impressive. Too bad we didn't make it into the semi's. I bet we would have had a good ISU crowd to watch our squad. High-level vollyball is pretty entertaining. And it doesn't hurt that several of the players are pretty easy on the eyes. Nice uni's too ;) !

    Re: Volleyball semi-finals

Those were the first two sets Penn State has lost all year, what a night. Unfortunately, the weather kept me from being there, but I will be there Saturday. This year there seems to have been a lot of down 0-2 comebacks.

    Re: Volleyball semi-finals

I was impressed how few penalities for in the net and double carry were called. It was high level play. Looked like nebraska made a few mistakes a the end on passing to lose out. Now the rematch of last year's chanmpionship game on Saturday.

CFH HMagic bball season next year.

I've seen a few men's volleyball games live (and the NCAA's on ESPN) and they are very exciting to watch. Would love to see that added to the IHSAA sport list, but what season do you think it would be? Winter is pretty full, and fall competes with football... interesting....

    Re: Volleyball semi-finals

They changed the rule this year for double hits, as long as you make an "athletic" move, it is not a double. The rule change was brought about to encourage defense and more rallies. But last night had some great volleyball. Texas has got to be frustrated. Engle struggled down the stretch, Stanfords biggest weakness is setting, with Kehoe gone this year that is what they are lacking!

That's a good question and I don't really have an answer to that. It just seems to really be gaining popularity thanks to ESPNU, the Big10 network, the Olympics. Heck, the AVP is broadcast on NBC on Sundays during the summer.

I know for example, in Ankeny they have started a club team for boys.

And they wonder why beach volleyball was so popular at the Olympics.

I watched the NU/Penn St match - Awsom. I was pulling for NU (Big12). I thought they played terrible the 1st - 2 sets, a ton of errors, but Penn State is really, really, really good. Nice Comeback by the CornHeads. Too bad both Big 12 teams are out.
