Thumbs up Prime Time bringing his act to Ames?

It has been reported that GC has interviewed Deion Sanders to become our other d-backs coach. If he accepts, Sanders would be in charge of cornerbacks, while Ash would coach the safeties. Apparently a second interview has been set up for Prime Time to come to Ames and tour the facilities. Sanders would be an outstanding hire for both recruiting and teaching technique. His ties to Florida from his playing days are numerous, while he is still a household name to many high school players. I guess he and GC met back in Florida when Prime Time was at FSU and Fort Myers, Florida for his high school days. It was not considered common knowledge that Sanders even had any interest in joining the coaching ranks, so this comes as quite a surprise. If he accepts an offer it would be a great get for ISU!

Where did you see this reported? I'm not sure what Sanders has to gain by coming to ISU to coach db's.

Lets hope this will pan out for us, but fingers crossed it sounds somewhat like a the Mike Didka situation. (It’s all a wish)

WOW!!! this is exactly the type of big name assistant I would love to have. Instant exposure and I think it would give us a huge boost in recruiting, especially db's. what high school corner would not want to play for the greatest cover corner of all time. While I wasn't a huge fan of "primetime" as a player (and i'm sure many of you weren't either) I would love it if we got him. This sounds so surprising/outrageous, can anyone verify this???

By whom? Is this legit? Why would Deion give up his gig at AT&T showcasing other athletes' homes to come to Ames to coach?

One problem that I have with your scenerio is that Chris Ash was not retained at the DB coach, and Shawn Raney has been hired. If you want your story to be believable, you should have the correct current coaches in there, and not the former coaches.

damn, you beat me to it. I was just wondering the same thing. Doesn't make any sense when you are listing a coach that doesn't even coach here anymore.

No way this if factual. Why would Deion Sanders ever come to Ames, Iowa. Thanks for the laugh though.

Alright, alright you got me. I hadn't heard anything else about a second secondary coach being hired so I thought I'd stir the pot for about 10 minutes here and see what people thought. Had to at least give you a clue that it was bogus or the old #21 Falcons jerseys would be jumping off the shelves and Cyclone dads would be naming their firstborn children "Deion". Have to admit, it'd be sweet if it were true!

    Edit-Sorry if I gave anybody a coronary :S

I do remember Deion saying he wanted to become a head coach at some point, but I agree that this does sure seem like a strange place to start. Would love it if this were true though.

Re: Prime Time bringing his act to Ames?

this has to be one of dumbest coaching rumors I have ever heard. I am not saying it is impossible but very, very unlikely. Why on earth would he come to Ames?

He is coming to DM for some deal at the Wells Fargo arena. Maybe he will interview. yeah right.

Like bootcy said you better get some facts straight before you try and spread rumors, that way they are a little more believable.

Maybe walter payton will coach the rb's.

I agree...it wouldve been a fun post if you wouldve mentioned Raney instead of Ash. Nice try though.
