and Stoops is the guy...will this be the first time hes ever had a scoop?

Maybe kissing the rump of the owner of the local minor league hoops team is paying dividends..

    Re: IF Tirell is right

Here is the thing; with very fluid things like coaching searches, you can talk to all of the right sources and have information that is up to date, and be very much on the right track...and an hour later, be totally irrelevant and eventually, not get it right.

These things have so many twists and turns, its one of the hardest things to be 'right' about.

That being said, and as I stated before, I was right next to Marty this AM when he was working the phones, I know who he was speaking to, and they are very solid sources. I also know that Marty went out of his way to seek counsel on what to do with the information, regarding, thinking through the process of how to report it fairly and in a proper context.

Does he fly off the handle sometimes? Yes, he does, and I am not saying anything here that I would not say to his face. But I know that today, he was being very careful to be as professional as possible related to this story.

    Re: IF Tirell is right

I do think Marty isn't just popping off in this case. They guy absolutely, positively wants to be the guy that breaks the story. I mean - bad.

    Meh - ok.

But it looks to be a dead end, for now. I'm good with that - I think there are other fish out there that would be better for us.

Keep in mind, Jeremy also said he was hearing Stoop's name...

    Re: IF Tirell is right

Not a chance that he is right! Everyone thinks they have sources, and no one really does. Jamie is the only one knowing what is going on. Hiring Stoops would be way to risky for Jamie in this stage of his career, it could be career suicide, too tough of a sale to Cyclone Nation!

How long did it take you to write the JonMillerObsession.js s-cript that searches the entire web and alerts you at the first sign of activity from him so you can pounce like a lost kitten?

You don't like him, we get it...

Maybe I can get my bosses to agree with this. You know Boss, the thing about business is that it is very fluid and changes constantly. You know what, I totally botched that report. Damn fluidity.

It all depends on what you do for a living. If it fits your genre, then it fits. If it doesn't, it doesn't.

One size does not fit all.

If a reporter randomly throws out speculation and stuff he's heard from other uninformed people, and one time in fifty his random speculation is right, is that a scoop? I don't think so. It's pretty much impossible to guess wrong 100% of the time.

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.
