    Re: 2009 Preseason Rankings

I could see Iowa being in the top 25, but not sure about 15. They return at least 7 starters on defense and at least 7 on offense, so they should be pretty good.

Excellent. This generally results in an Iowa nose dive.

Iowa will finish in the top 25 and remain there for the preseason. Minnesota being in there is an absolute joke, they're awful.

    Re: 2009 Preseason Rankings

We haven't even played a bowl game for 2008 and we're getting 2009 predictions?

Hell, let's look at 2010 while we're at it-any bets on what Auburn will be ranked...

I'm not surprised by this at all. The media has always been in love with the Hawkeyes. I'm surprised they didn't make the top ten.

Don't see how Iowa has a good year next year. Lose their studs on D and no way in hell Shonn Greene stays. We all know Stanzi sucks.

I agree on the 15th thing. I expect them to be right around 20th. They return 7 on O, not including Green of course, with 7 or 8 returning O-linemen who have started games.

They return 8 on D, with King and Kroul being huge losses. Though we did have a Soph D-tackle (Klug) get Big 10 player of the week and conventional wisdom has one of the 280 lb sophomore D-ends moving inside. This would get Frosh Binns on the field at DE who seems to be the most explosive of the group and had a terrific year in relief. Actually Iowa returns their top 7 Lbers who all got lots of action and 9 of their top 10 Dbs as well. I think we had something like 25 Frosh or Sophs on the 2-deeps.

For what it is worth however, as another poster pointed out, Iowa typically performs better when poorly thought of and vice versa so who knows? Really though at some point and time they are going to have to prove they can play "up to" expectations. Besides we wont be ranked high enough pre-season to garner anyone’s ire but ISU. At 20th or so we shouldn't be too full of ourselves I'd hope. At 12th in the past we obviously blew!

Lets keep in mind 90% of ISU fans said the same thing last year so I'm not sure this is earth shattering stuff here. Furthermore Iowa has typically had some good Rbers so Hampton will be fine. In fact they mostly and pretty uniformly said they were as good or better at most positions and they had 3 better Rb’s and we know how that turned out.

King and Kroul will be the toughest and since we lose 2 D-linemen instead of all 4 like 2005 we should be ok.

Yeah and had did the 05 game against ISU turn out?

anyways, Iowa will lose more than 4 games next year, that's for sure. If Stanzi learns how to play quartback, they may have a chance.

Not well, but we rebounded OK. I'll tell you this right now we will have to be very lucky to beat ISU in Ames next year no matter who your coach is or how good we are. You guys have our number and it is always a hard fought game.

As for your prediction that's what you hope. It may be right, but lets not kid ourselves here. If ISU returned 25 Frosh and Sophs on the 2-deeps including 15 starters. Not to mention the top 8 of 10 linemen, a QB who started as a soph and a true Frosh Rber who ran for 400 plus yards and 7 Td's in more than mop up, you’d be giddy.

Not to mention all but 3 of the top 25 players on D who all saw lots of action. Again you are hoping Iowa loses 4 games and you could be right, but lets call it what it is.............

I'd agree with this as well. Good or bad Iowa seems to get a little love regularly from the national media. Better than the alternative I suppose.
