    Suggestions for Carpet Cleaning Service

I know nothing about carpet cleaning services, so I figured I go to the most intelligent subset of the population for assistance. My house is south of Des Moines about 30 miles and I have four bedrooms, a dining room, and a hallway and staircase. Stanley Steamer quoted over the phone a price of $180, is that too much? Is Stanley steamer a quality outfit? Please, your input, anybody! Thanks!

"I think that people are responding to someone standing up and saying this is what we want to do and let's not be afraid to go for it,'' Pollard said. "I think Iowa State has a very conservative, modest background. We never pound our chest and say `Let's do it.' It's OK to set a goal. You can't do it if you don't say what you want to do. You should be proud of it.''

Whoever you go with just be careful that you only get your carpets cleaned and don't wind up joining a cult.

Re: Suggestions for Carpet Cleaning Service

Depending on how bad your carpets are, you can rent one from Home Depot, Lowes, or pretty much any hardware store. I do that about once every 6 months or so. It is something like $20-$30 for a day rental and buying the solution which lasts about 2 or 3 cleanings. But if the carpets are really bad, I would hire somebody.

Buy one and do it yourself. It is not that hard.

I could really see the thread title leading the responses down the wrong road...if in Des Moines Steamatic does a great job, and the guys have been pretty educated-

As far as depth goes though, the combination of White, Woodbury, Olaseni, Basabe, and Uthoff is much better than Niang, Ejim, Edozie, Gibson. Not because of the top 2, but because of the next 2 or 3. -DeanVogs

Re: Suggestions for Carpet Cleaning Service

I would highly recommend using a professional carpet cleaning service versus renting your own. Rented cleaners typically do not have enough suction power, and the soap stays in your carpet. That soap will attract soiling like a magnet and your carpet will get dirty very quickly and look worse than it did before.

I have my own as well. mainly because my dog always tracks mud in the house. if you keep up with it once every few months it is pretty easy.

My wife works in the flooring business and she says to never, ever soap your carpet...ruins it and voids any warrentee you might have. Hot water extraction is the only way to go, so find a place that does hot water extraction...should be easy.

    Ditto.

$180 is not out of line, unless you live in a closet.
