Hell, I didn't even know about this until today when Greg addressed it in the press conference.

Re: Coach Mac apologizes to Brackins

Is it me, or is Mac babying the guys way more than what he did in Year 1?

We didn't have the horses at all in his first season, but everytime a guy made a stupid mistake, he put them on the bench immediately and talked to them to try to correct it. Why don't we see that anymore?

Why isn't Craig put on the bench when he forces a bad shot from 17 feet out (like he's doing WAY too often)? Why doesn't he take Diante out after a string of bad turnovers or when he takes a 3 pointer with 20 seconds left on the clock?

Is he afraid of more guys transferring?

So McD apologized for saying that Brackins was manhandled? And this is newsworthy?

Give Mac credit, that is a pretty minor criticism for Mac to be taking so seriously.

Needs to recruit tougher players, both mentally and physically....

I would typically agree, but after all the problems we've had keeping players at Iowa State I don't think you can risk hurting anyones feelings. We don't need another leading scorer leaving because of how he feels his relationship with the coach was going.

I'm not saying it Wesley was Mac's fault, just that when what seems to be simple misunderstandings in that program have ended up as major catastrophes.

I'm glad Fennely doesn't worry about hurting anybody's feelings (reference his comments following Iowa loss). I wonder if that's what makes him successful.

Out on the recruiting road, you can evaluate guys physically. But how do you really evaluate whether someone is mentally tough? I think each player will come in with their own attitude and mentality. You just won't know as a coach until you get them in games where things are getting tough. You won't know as a coach until you have a losing streak and you watch guys in practice.

I just don't believe mentality can be recruited. They either have it or they don't.

I do think that McD is walking on egg shells due to the Wesley J situation. I think Wes was an anomaly. McD should let guys have it if they deserve it.

Re: Coach Mac apologizes to Brackins

I love Mac, but that's bull. Brackins did get manhandled. Brackins always gets manhandled. I don't think he should apologize. Maybe he should have said the whole team got manhandled, I suppose that would be more politically correct.

Brackins getting manhandled will be a reoccurring theme all year long. Right now Brackins is best suited to having another low post scorer so he can play the high post low post game. He is best passing from the high post. Last year we saw with Hubalek that Craig is a very effective passer from the high post. Now the way teams disrespect everyone else on the low blocks and their respect for our shooters and inability to dribble penetrate, Craig gets clogged. Couple that with his affinity for getting pushed off the blocks and our wings inability to feed the ball strong to the post when we have a good seal down low (going on 3 years now I might add) and Craig has to work for every bucket he does have. Craig is still a year away from being a legitimate post player, but all of the potential is there. He is just a few teammates away from making his job easier as well.

I love Craig, but that kid has all of the measurables but none of the intangibles at this point.
