    Re: Some good news!

Back to back weeks in which we have a player receive individual honors. I like that.

I just wish the W's would have been there this past week.

    Re: Some good news!

Lucca coming alive during a bad week is the silver lining. If CB would kick it back out more often when he is fed in the high post and he’s not able to take it strong to the bucket or take a good shot we will be in much better shape.

    Re: Some good news!

    CB receives honors - win.

    Lucca receives honors - lose.

What I'm saying here is, we often talk about how we'll live/die by the three - but we had a guy that was just money from the arc and one or two others that were doing pretty decent from there as well. CB, however, was not much of a factor.

IMO, we'll live/die by the performance of Craig more than we will the 3-ball...

Agree completely. Craig asserting himself on both ends (and both boards) is going to be a huge key for our chances. He seemed to be a non-factor and didn't play well on either end Friday. We'll go as far as CB can take us this year...

GMac talks about the need to develop an inside-out game but yet I have only seen CB kick it back out once in the losses to Drake and Iowa. Instead he chooses to throw up bad shots. I am a huge CB fan. I hope this aspect of his game improves.

Sometimes post players, especially when they are gifted athletes, get into the mentality that when the ball comes into them, their repsonsibility is to score, regardless of the situation. When that doesn't happen, and some bad shots go up, the perimeter players become hesitant to feed the post, and it just goes downhill from there.

I like to see the ball go into the post at least once on every set posession, but that doesn't mean the post should shoot it everytime. A post who can pass and find the open players adds a whole new dimension to the offense.

iowa just bullied him around on Friday night. He never really got a chance to post up within 5 feet of the basket, because they wouldn't let him. The officials were really letting them be physical with him...well, until we were down by 20 in the 2nd half. Then, they called every ticky tack foul inside. But, he needs to really continue to hit the weights and get tougher...

Having a guy that is gobbling up the ball and scoring points for ya almost at will on the inside is not only demoralizing for the other team - but it's a huge boost for the good guys (See ISU vs UNI 2008).

This will be our key. And I think the big key is to get this going very early.

Plus, IMO, Craig needs to learn to just suck it up when things are not going his way and give a better effort - instead of forcing things. When Craig gets frustrated - he's pretty much done for that evening. If we're going to be successful and if Craig wants to make the next level - this has to change.

Craig isn't strong enough to be a consistent factor inside. He just isn't. It's no lack of ability, it's lack of size/strength.

I keep harping on it, but the other key besides CB is for DG to get to the hoop and get fouled. This team has to put more pressure on the interior of the other team's defense. When the shots aren't falling, you can still make some of it up at the free throw line...if you get there.

I agree. DG seems to be "attempting" to drive the lane, but for some reason, has been very careless with the basketball and has looked quite confused when he makes that drive. It's very odd - especially in what we saw from him late last year and in the first few games this year.
