    Blake Leaving Nebraska

If Blake is the recruiter he claims to be (took credit for OU national title game team), this will be a setback for NU. Does show that people are available - even if seemingly gainfully employed. Story in full (with credits) for those who don't want to signup for Omaha.com

LINCOLN - Nebraska assistant coach John Blake is leaving the Huskers after three football seasons to join Butch Davis' staff at North Carolina.

Although UNC hasn't officially announced the hiring, it's believed that Blake will be the Tar Heels' defensive line coach and assistant head coach. Davis recently was hired to replace John Bunting.

"I want to thank coach Blake for his efforts and contributions as part of our coaching staff for the past three years,'' NU head coach Bill Callahan said in a release. "This is an opportunity that John felt would enhance him professionally and we certainly wish him all the best in the future.''

Blake is considered one of the top recruiters nationally and was instrumental in Nebraska compiling its top five signing class in 2005.

Blake worked with Davis on the Dallas Cowboys' staff in the 1990s, right before Blake started a three-year run as head coach at Oklahoma in 1996.

    Re: Blake Leaving Nebraska

This has been rumored since Butch Davis got the job at UNC. It's a bummer to see Blake leave, but the consenus of Nebraska fans is that Callahan will have a "wow" candidate waiting in the wings.

Callahan's coaching tree has alot of branches and has guys who want to come and coach under Callahan, even if that means a demotion. Last year, Shawn Watson was Colorado's offensive coordinator, this year, he's TE's coach at Nebraska.

So Watson walked away from the OC job at Colorado to coach TE's at Nebraska? Or did it have something to do with Gary Barnett and company losing their jobs in Boulder?

Yeah well, ya know, that's just, like uh, your opinion, man.

Watson lost his job when Barnett got the ax. I'll see if I can find the exact quotes, but Barnett encouraged Watson to take the TE's job at Nebraska.

    Edit: found the quotes

Watson made stops at Illinois, Miami of Ohio, Southern Illinois and Northwestern before following Gary Barnett to Colorado in 1999.

He said Barnett pointed him to Nebraska as he spent the last week trying to make a decision.
"Gary's words for me last night were, 'You want to wake up every morning at a place where football is important, where winning is important, and where they walk the walk,'" said Watson, who was among the assistants not retained when Dan Hawkins took over as Colorado head coach. "And Nebraska is the place."
