    Pete Carroll

No, not as our next coach, but they had a piece on him last night on 60 minutes and I have a new level of respect for the guy. I know he's a little bit Hollywood, but he's been going into the poor sections of LA and meeting with gang members and trying to inspire them to change their lives. He goes in with no security and gets to know these kids, giving them his cell phone number if they need help or to talk, and inviting them to USC practices. They interviewed an LA cop who said Pete is really making a difference in a lot of these kids lives. Now if Pete wants to really take on a challenge maybe we could get him to coach our Cyclones (he was once on our staff here I think).

I agree; that was an excellent piece going behind the scenes of college football. I was surprised how well he connected with members of the Crips and other gang-bangers.

They went on to say USC's practices are open to the public and showed how Carroll uses a lot of positive reinforcement to inspire his players.

Yes, he was on staff at ISU at one time, under Earl Bruce, whom he followed to Ohio State.

I'm not sure, but I think you're confusing Pete Carroll with Mack Brown. (As far as having once been on ISU's staff).

    Re: Pete Carroll

If you go to the Jacobson/Olsen building, on the plaque listing all of the coaches, head and assistant , who have ever presided over Iowa State football, you will see the name Pete Carroll. He was here for, I believe(since its been a year or so since I've been in there) one year as a position coach. The plaque is on the east side of the wall next to the staircase by the west doors facing the practice facility.

Pete Carroll was the secondary coach under Earle Bruce.

    Re: Pete Carroll

I think it's time for Pete Carroll to "come home." With the jersey similarities there's a chance we could convince him he's still at USC if we keep him slightly drugged.

Unbelievable - our coaching roster reads like a who's-who in College Football:
    + Pete Carroll
    + Mac Brown
    + Jackie Sherril
    + Jimmy Johnson
    + John Cooper
    + Larry Coker
    + Glen Mason
    + Paul Rhoads
    + Pop Warner

He's been doing this for a long time. Surprised (saddened) that it took 60 minutes this long to do a story about something so special and unique.

Yet we are a graveyard? Iowa was a graveyard once as well and we were pretty good at that time, we are just in a lull. I know John Cooper played here, but coaching? When did Larry Coker and Glen Mason coach here?
Both Majors and Bruce had a lot of good assistants. Don't forget that Alvazado guy-under Majors, he was the special teams for the Cowboys for quite some time.
