Hope these guys have calmed down after the weekend and are able to focus on their finals this week. Can't imagine that being an easy task at all. :(

One of the hardest things to do, especially after getting a taste of playing time, is sitting a year out. I think if we are able to hire an inspiring coach quickly we won't lose very many, if any guys...

This is a similar timing to the LE firing. I do remember Jackson Vroman and Tim Barnes having some grade issues after their finals. That may have cost Tim Barnes his career at Iowa State and ISU another NCAA appearance.

I'm not sure Tim Barnes needed any help failing classes...

Barnes was ineligible before the LE fallout.

Similar if you don't count the fact that we hired someone off his staff for continuity. Pretty sure that's not an option we want here.

Re: 12/15/2008-Official Current ISU Player Thread

I can't imagine what is going through the heads of those kids right now. If you are an underclassmen, your soul purpose for going to ISU just hopped the first flight outta dodge. Your snot is literally freezing as you walk to your finals. If you are a recruit, you read cyclonefanatic and see how much people hate/hated the coach you pledged to play for. Then you realize that you have a short window now once a coach is hired to re-confirm your pledge status or plan other visits to other schools so that you can feel comfortable when you sign in February. The best thing about Chizik's departure is that it gives us some time (barely any I know) to secure recruits for next year. Had he left in January, we wouldn't have found a coach in time to secure ANY solid recruits before the February signing date.

Current & Future Football Players; Read This!

Don’t make a poor decision based on the turmoil of the last week. Your issue is with Coach Chizik not Iowa State.

The next head coach will be as good or likely better than Chizik. There have been a number of quality coaches at ISU. To keep this post relatively short I will name two.
    • Mack Brown (Texas) is a former assistant coach under J. Majors if I remember right.
    • Jimmy Johnson (NCAA National Champion and Superbowl Champion Coach) was an assistant coach at ISU.

If you are a quality player you will be recognized by the NFL while at ISU. Again here are just two examples I have selected because both players were in the news over the weekend.

    1. Ellis Hobbs had a 95 yard return for a touchdown for the Patriots.
    2. Seneca Wallace won the game for the Seahawks. Seneca deserves special mention in the fact that other “higher profile” colleges wanted to convert him to another position. But he wanted to play Q.B. and he was given that opportunity at ISU.

Lastly, ignore the negative postings of Iowa fans disguising themselves as ISU fans. It’s an organized effort on their part because they can’t stand competition.

Re: 12/15/2008-Official Current ISU Player Thread

The student body and fans need to rally around the entire football team in a manner similar to the way you rolled out the carpet for Lucca.
They need to feel wanted, praised, and to be shown what it is like to have the support of the Cyclone Nation. Don't be afraid to pat them on the back when you see them on campus and let them know we will be in the seats next year, yelling and cheering.

    GO STATE!

When asked who would be leaving, this is what this guy says (claims to be a member of the team in a previous post)...

its tough to tell. some are jumping the gun already and already saying they're leaving no matter what but some want to stay and see who the new coach will be. it could just be guys talking but some are very serious when they say they're going to transfer. leonard johnson i think is a for sure. he was very close with chizik because chizik was from lj's home town and had to pull some strings in order for leonard to even be accepted into iowa state...but some of the other freshman are very frustrated as you can imagine and are already talking to eachother about where they want to go.

I really hope they all stay they were fun to watch and grow as players right before our eyes. I feel really bad for them and can not even imagine how it must feel. You players will always and mean always have my support whatever you choose to do at Iowa State or without Iowa State. Go Cyclones I will still go to games if the paycheck does not get any smaller
