    Re: Todd Fitch

Crap. I hope theres not a link between him coaching and bret meyer's regression. While I blame a lot of Bret's trouble this year on an incompetant O-line, I think he could have helped his cause by not focusing on 1 reciever from the snap. I put the responsibility on Fitch to notice that and correct it, but it never happened.

    Re: Todd Fitch

I think they should have run more three step drops this year as well to take some pressure off of Bret, but that's all water under the bridge now. He's put two quarterbacks in the NFL, he can't be all that bad.

I agree. I was in favor of having an entirely clean slate of coaches.

    Sage Rosenfelds
    Seneca Wallace
    Austin Flynn
    Brett Meyer
    Austin Arnaud
    PHillip Bates
    and Possibly Chaison

That is why Todd Fitch will be retained. The guy can recruit QB's. Or am I wrong on who recruited these guys. I am probably wrong.

    Re: Todd Fitch

I'll assume they know what they are doing. Who could possibly tell how Meyer was progressing with all the line problems?

I don't think Fitch was here yet when Rosenfelds, Wallace, Flynn, and Meyer were recruited. I'm not sure on Arnaud but if he was I don't give a ton of recruiting credit for landing a hometown guy who's dad played for the same school.

    Re: Todd Fitch

I think that it can be a very good thing to have at least one coach on the staff that players know and are comfortable with. GC is bringing in a lot of new ideas and a different personality to the program, and that isn't always the easiest thing for the players. Being able to have a guy that they know and can talk to about any concerns and problems while being on the same page with GC makes that transition that much smoother. In addition I'm sure nobody knows where we are at as far as recruiting and other things as much as Finch. You can sit back and say well we don't have a good class coming in next year and the offense didn't look good last year, but it is about know people and coaches in this area and knowing players that we want to target in the next few years.

    Re: Todd Fitch

I'm pretty sure Fitch joined the ISU staff in 2004 and fought off testicular cancer in that time. He has a lot of experience at Bowling Green, Colorado State, UConn, and South Carolina.

Maybe Schneider and Simms will have a chance at keeping their jobs too.

    Re: Todd Fitch

Fitch came in after the 2003 season after being fired at South Carolina. Meyer was already here and Arnaud had already been recruited as Mac had been watching him since his HS sophomore season. I can say that compared to Brickey, Fitch did a lot of great fundamental work with our QBs, but in terms of landing any big QB recruits, we have seen none of his guys on the field as of yet. A great coach to say the least, he just hasn't been around long enough for us to see one of his true developments.

    Re: Todd Fitch

Fitch joined Dan McCarney’s Iowa State coaching staff in January 2004. He has previously worked under legendary head coaches Don Nehlen, Earle Bruce and Lou Holtz. Fitch was the South Carolina quarterbacks coach in 2003 after a year as running backs coach and three seasons as the Gamecocks’ wide receivers coach -- all under Holtz. During Fitch’s tenure at USC, the Gamecocks appeared in the 2001 and 2002 Outback Bowls.

    Re: Todd Fitch

He is the most nationally hearalded coach of all of our former asst's. I remember rumors of him joining a hot name/newly hired coach last year, but he was respectful of Mac cause he was so great to him when he went through his cancer ordeal.

Sorry man, this made me laugh a bit. Only because one seldom sees anyone state this on any message boards. Kind of goes against the norm from what is usually stated. Pretty good.
