    Phillip Bates???

Does anyone think that we have any shot at getting Phil to come back?

now before everyone says "we don't want him back cuz he quit on us!" take this into consideration...

Phil is a friend of a friend to me, and the night he decided to quit I was actually with him and to me it seemed to me that the main reason he was leaving was the coaching staff. And i'm pretty sure we all think pretty low of this coaching staff at this moment in time.

so with that said, there is no doubting that Phil is a great athlete and I know some people disagree but i would love to see another QB battle this year, or implement a 2 QB system (this year's i don't count because it wasn't a fair split of time between PB and AA).

Phil is still attending school here so i don't see why he couldn't change his mind still?

Am I the only one who would like to see Phil in Cardinal and Gold or do i have some other people's support???

    Re: Phillip Bates???

Too much Drama. Phil is a wonderful athlete and average QB. Let him take his talents elsewhere. We will be fine without him.

Unless he has complete support from his former teammates... then that would be a different story.

The kid DID quit on us last year ... even though it was a tough situation. I wish if it was JUST the fact he didn't like the coaching staff, he would have had tough enough skin to stick it out.

I don't know any current players, but I would think that it would be tough form them to take him back.

    Re: Phillip Bates???

I wouldn't have a problem with it in light of recent events, but it would have to be ok with his teammates and the new coach. If they will accept him on the team, I should too.

i'd give him a second chance.

As far as depth goes though, the combination of White, Woodbury, Olaseni, Basabe, and Uthoff is much better than Niang, Ejim, Edozie, Gibson. Not because of the top 2, but because of the next 2 or 3. -DeanVogs

Unless he wants to play DB, I don't think there's a spot for him at QB.

I wouldn't mind seeing him back, but just because the coaching staff is gone doesn't mean he'll move up ahead of arnaud..wouldn't mind seeing him at wr again

    Re: Phillip Bates???

Phil has had enough time away from the team, enough time to look at other schools, that I really feel that he has moved on. Yes the reason he quit, was the coaching staff, and he is certainly intrigued by this situation, but his plans have been in place, and he wanted to have his decision made by christmas break. It may depend on who we hire and how fast we get him here, and if he trys to get Phil back on board, It will be interesting, but i doubt it.

    Re: Phillip Bates???

I wouldn't mind that...to be honest. I thought there was something strange to that whole story in the first place, but I had to accept it and stand behind our coaches. Now that our head coach pulled the rug out from under us (also) I think Bates knew something we didn't. If he wants to be a Cyclone, I would welcome him back (as I really didn't have any hard feelings toward him when he left). I wish he would have been put in against Kansas...maybe we could have changed the outcome. It was after that game where things started to feel wrong.

    does he feel some vindication?

    Re: Phillip Bates???

from what i know alot of his closest friends are still current cyclone FB players. There is no way every person would take him back. but i think the majority would consider it. obviously he would have to issue some kind of apology to the team and maybe even Athletic Dept. but i for one would really like to see phil back.

i know i'm in the very very small minority but i like phil at QB better than AA.

    Re: Phillip Bates???

I actually thought of that as well but not sure yet. I think it would be great for him to stay but it would be better if he considered another position like the backup QB at Kansas Meyer (Spelling) and being sometimes a reciever just to make sure he was in the game at all times or I do agree with considering two QB's in the backfield at times would have been cool two see. D-fense would not know which one was going to get the ball.

I love his athleticism but would love to see him elsewhere. Just looking at his stats (bad) is enough for me.
