Here is how I think it all went down

I think Chizik has been working behind the scenes for a few weeks with Auburn Booster Lowder. He goes to Bolt and McFarland and tells them he is going to Auburn and taking them with but as position coaches not coordinators. They quickly agree to take a demotion at ISU. Chizik is now free to travel around the country and talk to coordinators. We think it is for ISU but it is actually for Auburn and it is on ISU's dime. Look for Chizik to hire Borges as his OC. If anyone think that Chizik just became a candidate yesterday and a deal is done already they are crazy.

i agree chizik has known for a while he was a candidate for other jobs. and i agree with paul clark that he probably didnt even unpack everything. you may be right on these points you make hursts, but i would like to think as a human being that gene has more to him than that. im really starting to wonder. not saying much for yourself as a man here chiz.

Honestly, wouldn't doubt it... but now is time to move on. It's time to support our players and JP in finding a new coach that is going to lead our team. Forget Chizik. What's done is done.

Re: Here is how I think it all went down

I'd be very surprised if that was how it happened. Maybe I'm naive, but I suspect that this all went down in a matter of days. I don't attribute any scheming and ill will to Chizik, but suspect that he just happened into an offer too good to refuse. I'm not buying into any of these conspiracy theories without some sort of evidence to back them up.

Re: Here is how I think it all went down

Auburn did not make a decision on Tuberville's future until three days after the Iron Bowl, initial speculation was that Tuberville would return. Given that the staff restructing was in the works prior to Turberville being out it would have been difficult for Chizik to be planning for such a departure. It's not like Chizik was Auburn's first choice either.

As much as I love a good conspiracy theory, this one is nuts.

Auburn hiring Chizik looks like what it is - a last minute thing. Their coaching search turned into a circus when they talked to almost every coach in the country who would be remotely available and got turned down (their Trustee/booster Lowder (sp?) probably has a lot to do with making the Auburn job undesireable). They had to interview someone who would take the job, and Chizik was that guy.

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.

This sounds scandalous, and everybody is intrigued by a good scandal, but do you have anything to back this up or is it just speculation? The last thing we need is another rumor flying around here.
