"If they don't want to be held accountable they are not going to play and they might want to seek other opportunities, to be perfectly blunt about it," Fennelly said. "There's a way things are done here, and that's not going to change."

Wow!! BF doesn't seem too pleased, but I love his philosophy. It also helps to have a good bench, so that changes like this can be made.

I'd be perfectly happy if ISU started Ross and began the game getting it in to her down low the first few possessions. We need to force them to respect the low post before we'll get a chance for many open threes. Drake hasn't beaten anyone particularly good, but neither had Iowa.

Wowzers. Bill ain't happy at all.

"If they don't want to be held accountable they are not going to play and they might want to seek other opportunities, to be perfectly blunt about it," Fennelly said. "There's a way things are done here, and that's not going to change."
I wonder who is going to be starting... He could go a lot of different ways.

I think he said the only ones who are playing the way he expects are Ezell and Lacey, so he's probably talking specifically to everyone else. e.g. Bolte, Wieben, and Nisleit

Any body else tired of this. We go to a glamour spot like Hawaii and before hand the talk is all about bonding and how the kids will play better because of the extra time spent together. I'm all for all the whatever the coaches and kids can get but I would rather win a tourny in Fargo and come home and keep winning than come home and play like we did last Sunday after our week in paradise.

I've got no problem with them going to Hawai'i. These girls spend all year honing their skills and countless hours in the weight room, film room, open gym, practice, etc. I realize many of them are going to school for free, but I like the idea of semi-rewarding them for giving themselves to the program and the University.

Re: Cyclone Women Getting Lineup Shakeup

Another interesting article: Go Cyclones - Cyclones must interview for playing time

Bill said Ezell and Lacey were the only players to show up to the game vs Iowa, so they'll undoubtedly start. After that, who knows? I bet he'd start Ross if she were conditioned enough to give the team 25 minutes, but it doesn't seem like she's there quite yet.

This preview article states that Drake is holding opponents to only 28.7% 3pt shooting, but that is incorrect. Drake itself is shooting 28.7% (27-94) behind the arc. Opponents are shooting 41.3% (33-80) on threes. However, Drake is holding opponents to 37.0% FG shooting overall. Another interesting stat is that Drake has held opponents to only 49 assists on 141 FG. For comparison, ISU has 107 assists on 167 FG.

I don't buy the Hawaii excuse. They were back in Ames Monday afternoon, then spent all week practicing and getting ready for the Hawks.

I agree MRed, but BF loves Niz, so I doubt we see that change. My thoughts are that Wieben and Bolte have been the underacheivers so far on offense. I'd like to see Williams, Ezell, Aus, Ross and Wieben start. Have Williams run the point for Ezell and Aus to be open to shoot, and also dish to Ross and Wieben. Get the offense in rythym then bring Niz in for defense.

Re: Cyclone Women Getting Lineup Shakeup

I honestly think it's possible playing away from home so much has disrupted any rhythm they maybe had. You usually don't go more than 10 days or so between home games. Their last home game was November 16th, 25 days ago. You'd think with this veteran team it wouldn't be as much of an issue, but there's go to be some explanation to how ridiculously flat the team looked @ Iowa.

Looking at past schedules, the only other times they've had more than three non-postseason road games in a row in the Fennelly era:

06-07: Four straight. (UNI, two in Pepperdine tournament, Iowa)
00-01: Four straight. (UNI, Duke, KSU, Oklahoma)
97-98: Five straight. (Creighton, N. Arizona, three games in Hawaii)
95-96: Nine(!) straight. (Drake, Loyola Chicago, UW-Milwaukee, Creighton, two in Central Michigan tournament, Oral Roberts, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma)

Six straight away from home means six straight games in unfamiliar locations with unfamiliar locker rooms and unfamiliar courts.

I can't help but notice she only played 4 minutes against Stanford. Anyone know why?

She's a good player, but I don't see her starting over Ross once Ross is 100%. Nis will still get at least 20 mpg one way or another. She's below that number now, but she'll get more minutes as Bill tightens up the rotation closer to conference play because there's no way she's not in the regular rotation, starter or not. From the way it sounds, Bill might have decided he's tightening up the rotation effective immediately: if you aren't in the main rotation then you better make the most of the 5 minutes on the court you get if you want to stand a chance of getting more PT.

I agree that Bolte and Wieben definitely underachieved in the two losses, although in Wieben's defense she didn't touch the ball a whole lot in the Iowa game (she was 3-6 shooting and was the only Cyclone in the game who didn't turn it over). On the flip side, the post defense really struggled against Iowa.

If by reward you mean grounding them to their hotel room, for their only day off, after a loss to a top-5 team, then yeah. Keep pouting Bill, that will get them to play better.

    Pouting??? . . you're kidding right??

It is called "old school" coaching. And I love it.

Wasn't that done because he felt they didn't put in as much effort as they could've and should've?
