    Leno to primetime

Just heard on The Today Show this a.m. that Jay Leno will be moving his dog & pony show to primetime in '09. He'll be on at 9 p.m. (CST) and Conan will fill his current time slot of 10:30 p.m.

Sounds like a couple of reasons for this...
    1) NBC didn't want Jay to move to ABC (or any other network)
    2) The primetime dramas cost big bucks to produce and moving Leno to their time slots will help reduce costs in this struggling economy.

Are you going to miss the NBC shows in the current 9 p.m. time slot?

    Law and Order on Wednesday...

Other than that, one of the local affiliates here shows Mission Impossible (original) reruns at 9:00 PM, and I usually watch those on the other nights. That Barney is a clever one...

    Re: Leno to primetime

Given that I rarely watch anything besides news, movies, and sports - I think it's a great thing. I'm not sure O'Brien can carry the "Tonight Show" and NBC needs to keep Leno in the fold.

Plus, Leno is just plain funny. Conan usually is not (IMO).

My guess is that in a couple of years Leno will go back to his current spot or they'll turn to John Stewart as the host.

Hey Palmer - you and I are usually in agreement. Leno makes me bust my gut laughing.

    Re: Leno to primetime

Why don't they just give Conan 2 hours and dump Leno.

That statement is the exact opposite of reality. The comedy hierarchy goes:

    Conan > Letterman > Leno

    Re: Leno to primetime

more like an act of desparation. Ad revenue and ratings are way down for networks. I've heard rumors of networks actually giving primetime hours back to the local affilates for local programming.

    Re: Leno to primetime

We saw Leno live when we went to vegas to see the clones. His standup was much better than his monologues on the show because he was allowed to say things you can't say on television.

Some of the things on his show are pretty funny, though.
