    OT: PS3 gaming consoles

In short, what do I get? I have a ps2 with a lot of games and want whatever system to be backwards compatible.

The newer PS3s are not backwards compatible. I don't think you can find any in the stores anymore that are.

Older PS3s are backward compatible. Mine is an 80gb that is backward compatible. I am sure there are probably lists online that tell you which models are backward compatible and which are not.

I thought they could all play ps2 games?? guess I was wrong on that...mine plays ps2 games but it puts side bars on the edges cause the ps2 games res must not be as great as ps3...what id do is take all those games and system to gamestop and invest in new ps3 games...you won't be dissatisfied one bit

None of the new ones. Mine is an older 60gb that can but I rarely play them. Wikipedia gives a chart.

This is what I did and I haven't been dissatisfied for one minute. Yeah it sucks to go from a bunch of games to none, but there are some PS2 games you can download straight to the hard drive (for example, I've downloaded Twisted Metal 2...did cost $2.99 or $3.99 I think). However, if you do that, take in store credit! Don't take cash if you want the best value. When I traded off a bunch of my crap, I would've gotten $69 cash, but ended up with $148 in cash by taking in store credit.

I'm pretty sure the 80GB models for sale are backwards compatible. If you get a 40GB one, it isn't.

I don't know if the newest 80 gb model is for sure. I remeber hearing that the second 80 gb coming out would not be. The first 80s were.

side note....my daughter wanted to play an old ps1 sesame street game the other day so I loaded it up. Gotta say the graphics made me laugh watching her play on the hd tv. Crispest old school graphics you've ever seen.
