    Dear Pep Band

Please play the Polka version of the fight song more. It starts with roll out the barrel and then turns into the fight song. That song is AWESOME.

Could my wife get one of the hockey jerseys, then? She loves those things, but they apparently aren't available.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

I liked em when they were new.. but theyre definitely showing their age... Id like to see some new jerseys with the new colors... its gonna take some donations to the band to get it done though.

Next time you get one of those calls from the ISU foundation, think about having it directed to the band.

Mabye they're bad age wise, but I really like how they look. A former member of the band told me that they keep raising the fine for "lost" shirts because they can't have anymore made. (At least not a copy..)

They have been ordered should be delivered sometime during the season. Or so were told.

Gotta agree with you. Especially since my last season I'd gotten one of the never used XXL ones that we put all the sousas in that year.

    Re: Dear Pep Band

I actually don't like how they change up the style of the fight song.

I would rather have them play something OTHER than Madonna, Green Day's first single, Blink 182, and other versions of the Fight Song as well

Lets play some other fun songs, and lets play some other ISU songs.

Having season tickets, hearing the same thing over and over gets old fast. The Madonna song was cool the first time it was played at football, but it gets old. It's not even new anymore.

Along with the fight song, there should be a basketball related song that the band can play as well. That way we don't get duplication from the football and basketball games...

    Thanks!

    Sincerely,

I'm sure it does get boring hearing the same songs, but you have to realize that the ISU Band actually has a MUCH more diverse repertoire than a lot of college pep bands in the country and the big 12. Have you ever listened to the OU band? They play 2 songs: Boomer Sooner (OVER and OVER again) and The Hey Song. Same with Texas, just replace boomer sooner with the texas fight song.

Don't even get me started with USC, their band plays various versions of their fight song for every situation and nothing else.

That is twice as many songs as I have ever heard the OU band play. I don't recall ever hearing them play anything other than Boomer Sooner. But I usually start tuning them out the first time they play it.

I'll break my argument up into a couple of parts:

    1. During the end of football season, I get tired of hearing the same songs over and over between football and basketball
    2. When Football season is over, the repetition at the basketball games is more tolerable
    3. I am tired of hearing the same songs year over year though. They gotta do more than bring in just 1 new song per year. I mean Basketcase is from when I was a little kid, and Blink 182 is from when I was in high school. I've been going to games for 6 years and they keep playing them. Green Day and Blink 182 have NOTHING to do with ISU or sports, and I think that they could replace those songs with some others.
    4. I don't like other versions of the fight song. I don't like other versions of the National Anthem (ISU doesn't do this, but singers do for like the Superbowl, Baseball Games, etc). These songs were written a way for a reason. If you want something that's less march-like, learn a new song.
In summary: I wish they broke up songs between Football and Basketball; I wish they replaced pop songs each year; I don't like other versions of the fight song. I won't get any of that, but WHY do they play Basketcase and All the Small Things? Seriously?

On a related note of this thread...

If any member of the band (pep or otherwise) has a digital copy of the Polka Fights, please PM me. I am considering having it played at my wedding.

The same goes for "Cyclone Fantasia".

What's a "sports" song then? Name some and maybe we have it. It takes rehearsal time to put songs together, so early in the season we have to stick with more familiar tunes.

    Re: Dear Pep Band

Because there's not a lot of "music" coming out today that can be suited for pep bands. That's why most of the pep band repertoire comes from the 70s and 80s -- when pop music still had melodies and harmonies (and the occasional bridge!).
