    $1 per gallon gas?

The price of oil dropped 25% this week and closed Friday at $40.81 per barrel.

For gas prices to get close to a $1, oil prices probably would need to fall another $10 a barrel.

Yes, Detroit's best minds will begin to crank out big vehicles, because we all know gas prices are incredibly stable. We just need to give them a ****load of money so they can get started!

Part of the problem is all you people that found it necessary to buy non-American vehicles. There's nothing wrong with a car made by one of the big 3 and personally they heavier built cars while maybe not as fuel efficient I'd much rather be driving one if I were in an accident. Wait, already had one of those this week... For a little added safety I'll pay the extra few bucks at the pump.

Just talked to someone the other day that traded in his truck for one of these high gas mileage foriegn cars because of the gas prices and now he's wishing he had just bit the bullet at the pump because now he's wishing he still had his truck.

By the way a heavier built car is not always the best thing in an accident. Cars have these things called crush zones that are designed to crumple (absorb energy) to protect the safety of the passengers. Yes car repairs go up because of this but the amount of injuries decreases.

Well in an accident safety is the most important thing, if the car is totaled but you come away without a scratch that's more important isn't it? As mad as I was this week for doing around $3000 in damage to the front corner of my car I'm very grateful we both were perfectly fine.

You are assuming domestic cars do better in crash tests, which is not necessarily the case.

People who think like this are missing the point and become part of the problem. There is nothing wrong with a car made by one of the big three?!?!? If that was right, you would not need to write your first sentence - "all you people that found it necessary to buy non-American vehicles."

The simple truth you neglect to realize is that the truest and purest voting Americans exercise everyday is with their wallet. If there is nothing wrong with a car made by one of the big three, then the big three should have the best market share and be financially healthy.

You are bound to get examples of where the big three have failled with individual consumers and where the Honda's and Toyota's of the world have succeeded - I will spare you my own experiences, except to tell you the quality and customer care differences are significant.

What I really want to tell you is that no amount of flag waving and (essentially) calling those who buy other brands traitors will take care of the problem - and that problem is Detroit makes crappy cars and they cost too much. I've learned that the hard way and it was an expensive mistake that I wont make again.

If they can't fix that, and make it up to the consumer, it's over.

We buy all of the rest of our goods from over seas, cars are the next natural progression. If the country really wanted to prosper, it would make the everyday products we use, and find local sources of energy so our $$ would not be leaving the country so quickly. We are financing China's purchasing of our government by buying their products which they turn around and purchase our tbills with the profits.

    Yeah, that.

The "buy American" crowd amuses me. I used to really make a point of doing so.

However, when the "big 3" started making vehicles that were not up to par - they left me no choice. And I'm damn happy we made the switch to Nissan - I see absolutely no reason to switch back.

As far as gas prices, it's nice in the short term - but not great for the long term, IMO.

Good thing I bought my Ridgeline this summer when gas was $3.80.

They were basically giving trucks away back then.

If the economy ever picks back up I will be getting either a new Maxima, G, or 3 series. There are no american cars that can compete with either of those three, I wish there were. I guess the CTS comes close, but it is such an old man car.
