How crucial a role will Pollard play in the OC DC decision?

The balancing act between being Coach Chizik's "advisor" and being the coaches "boss" in this the OC DC hire, part deaux, will, I think, go a long way in defining both of their futures. I have no knowledge of Pollard's involement in round one, other than perhaps to "rubber stamp" Chizik's choices. If that indeed was the case, things will be different this time around, I have no doubt. But to what extent? What are your thoughts, and am I over simplifying Pollard's involvement here?

im guessing pollard again will just be rubber stamping chiziks choices. he will offer advice if gene asks but i dont see jamie as a micro manager. he will obviousy have some input on salaries.

Re: How crucial a role will Pollard play in the OC DC decision?

Pollard should not be involved at all. Gene is being paid to be the head football coach and he is the one who is 100% responsible for and evaluated on the performance of the program. If he's in charge, he needs to be 100% in control of who is on his staff, especially for his 2 most important positions. A meddling AD is not a good thing.

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.

+1 except for laying out the compensation guidelines.

JP may or may not be asked for his opinion on the hires, but I don't believe he will have any input on the final decisions. He may allow for a little extra in the kitty if he's really impressed.

Excellent points. I think and feel that with the "drastic" changes being made after only two years, perhaps Pollard might feel the need to?.................................

Maybe I should have asked it this way Monty. Do you, and others, think that Chizik, (after discussions with Jamie referencing the last half of the season) went to Jamie and said I am going to replace my OC and DC, or do you think Jamie said, "Gene, we have to make some changes at the OC and DC? I am just curious how these things work. Thanks. Just wondering.

Hopefully the decision was Gene's and Gene's alone, but only he and Jamie know what really happened.

Pollard will have as much input as the message board posters!

Seriously, Pollard will be involved on the financial side but I doubt Pollard is going to get involved in the X and O's portion. Now if there is a character concern, etc. then of course Pollard would influence the final decision.

I'm kinda curious as to whether Bolt and McFarland are taking pay cuts. Because the $ for new coordinators has to come from somewhere.

That's the type of input I'd expect from Jamie.

GC: Hey Jamie, I want to bring in 2 new coordinators.

JP: That's fine, but we need to free up some salary budget. Got any fat you can trim?

GC: Hmmm... well, Rainey can definitely go, and even though he's done an OK job, Peterson can probably go too, since the new OC will likely handle his duties.

JP: If you can convince Mac and Wayne to take a cut with their new roles, then that should be enough.

GC: Done. I'll let the guys know right away. Thanks, Jamie.

JP: No problem. And Gene.... make these count, OK?

GC: I won't let you down.
