Coach McCarney: Any info on his status?

I was glad that Skladany got hired at UCF. Does anyone have any intel on Mac or what options he's exploring?

I heard at one time he may be a candidate for Stanford's HC position, but nothing since.

Re: Coach McCarney: Any info on his status?

I haven't heard his name seriously for any spot...just speculation. I'm betting he will go somewhere for a year or two as a coordinator. But that's just my feeling. His overall record really works against him, plus this year. Put those two things together and promoting him as the next savior is not easy. I think he would be a good choice for a lot of programs, but we'll see if any bite. I still think Army would be a great spot for Mac.

Frank Solich turned Army down for Ohio since it is tough to win.

Re: Coach McCarney: Any info on his status?

D-Mac's progression to a Head Job isn't going to be easy, based upon his 12 year record a top tier program won't even look his way. Army, maybe? he would fit in well however it is a losser deal for anybody. I agree with many he probably will end up as an Coordinator somewhere if his ego will let him.

Don't be surprised that he takes a year or so off, he maybe around Ames for awhile. Unemployed that is, he can afford it.

he needs to be a coordinator somewhere because his motivation skills are great and can boost morale!

true I still believe that he will be a coach at a lower level. He just hit a road block and now he has to build up his reputation again. He wil coach in the 1a again he has the capabilities of that with in two years

he has a damn good reputation among coaches around the country, his rep is mostly just bad around the midwest, nationally he is widely thought of, so he will have a job!

Re: Coach McCarney: Any info on his status?

I think he'll be fine. I know I keep hearing his name being close to the FIU job and I really think he'd like it there. He has a house close by and it's a program that could have some success with a clean and clear coach like Mac.

About Stanford, Bowlsby could never get the fans to go for Mac after the past few years in Ames. They have incredibly high expectations, regardless of if they're ever achievable.

Mac's strengths are motivation and the PR part of it. He could go into a place like FIU and get the leftovers of some of the southern states and make a decent team. He's still rumored for some coordinator positions but I keep hearing that he doesn't want to step back to a non Head Coaching position, understandably.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

army has a former nfl head coach in bobby ross. took the chargers to the super bowl with neil odonnel as qb in mid 90s and lost to cowboys i think. doubt they would run this guy out of town for big mac.
