Fennelly at Linn-Mar v City High gbb game

Iowa Prep Sports | No. 1 Linn-Mar dominates defending champ City High

According to the CR Gazette, BF was at the game last night. I was there and didn't see him, but there were a lot of people there. The best player in the game was Jamie Printy of Linn-Mar, who will be a Hawkeye next year (Bluder was in attendance as well).

Printy is definitely a high-Div I player with good court vision and an accurate shot. The two minor criticisms I have of her (keeping in mind I've only seen her play once) are that she was sometimes reckless with the ball on offense and her three-point shot is slow. Her shot looks kind of like Anne O'Neil's shot before she overhauled it her senior year at ISU: she pulls the ball up from down low and puts it up in one long motion. I don't know how effective that shot will be when she plays against quicker competition.

One player BF was probably looking at is Kiah Stokes. She's a 6-3 sophomore for L-M, and she had 24 points and 13 rebounds in the game. She doesn't look awkward at all despite her height, although I'm not sure she's really 6'3". She is the daughter of former Hawkeye Greg Stokes, who is Iowa's #3 all-time scorer and played 2 seasons in the NBA.

Well, I certainly hope he's looking at Kiah Stokes. And lands her, too.

I reffed quite a few of Printy's games when she was younger. I don't remember her being reckless with the ball, but I agree with the slow ... maybe "delibrate" shooting motion. She can drain 'em though.

If I remember right she blew out a knew last year or the year before...

Re: Fennelly at Linn-Mar v City High gbb game

The "reckless" part might have just been good defense by City High. We moved to the area only several months ago so this is my first time seeing L-M play. I plan to attend a lot more games this year, so I'll get a lot better idea of the players on that team as the season goes on.

Printy really can nail threes when she gets open. Early in the game City High stuck to her pretty well but kept losing Stokes. Later in the game Stokes got more attention, so Printy kept finding huge holes in the defense and ended up with six threes.

Printy committed to Iowa when she was a freshman and signed this fall. There was another player from Iowa City from last years championship team, Virginia Johnson, that I thought would be a div 1 player. How did she look?

Re: Fennelly at Linn-Mar v City High gbb game

I didn't know anyone on the City High team before the game, so I didn't really pay attention to any of their individual players. Apparently she only scored 3 points in the game because L-M really keyed in on her (she's the only returning starter on that team). In the future, I'll be sure to do a little research on the L-M opponent before each game I attend so I know who to look at.

Man, I really wanted to go to that game. Which school was it at? Hopefully I can catch the rematch.

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

It was at Linn-Mar. I don't see a rematch on Linn-Mar's schedule at all.

Really? They're both in the same division. When I was at City, the MVC did the same scheduling as the Big 12: play everyone from the other division once and home-and-homes with everyone in your division. I wonder if that changed... Sure hope not!

City High's schedule also doesn't list a rematch. That is a bit weird.
