    Colton Iverson

A year ago last summer there was a big buzz about a big man Mac had at his summer camp, someone everyone thought might be a Cyclone. An unknown from Yankton, S.D., Colton Iverson certainly made a name for himself as a 6-9 banger, and eventually slipped away to Tubby Smith at Minnesota.

Well, I saw something of his play last night as Minnesota played Virginia, and I couldn't help but think how fine it would be to see him playing next to Craig Brackins. The kid can run the floor, he can bang, and he can muscle it to the hole. He ended up with 14 points and 7 rebounds.

My point is that obviously Greg McDermott can identify talent. In the little I saw of him, Iverson reminded me a lot of a senior Jared Homan--only better. I really regretted that this one slipped through our fingers--though I can't guess who the "or" recruit would have been. In the long term, I'm not sure I would have wanted to make the choice between Iverson and say, L.A. Pomlee.

Oh yeah--and the '08 unknown camp standout edition of Iverson was Chim Kadima. Someone McDermott has reeled in.

    Re: Colton Iverson

You can also see his eye for talent in players like all of Wisconsin's big freshmen big men it seems (Leuer especially) and Zeller for North Carolina (though he got hurt). That doesn't even include the early targets and commits we've gotten, most of which show promise for the years to come. It's pretty clear that our staff can identify talent early and that is essential for us to compete in recruiting. As others have said, we can't wait for a player to blow up and then expect to have a chance. We need to build relationships first.

have you ever got caught outside In a strong rainfall? Yes or NO. If it"s yes, then you might half felt the pane of hard(tought) rain on you head. If it hurt"s then it"s tough. Yes or no. Okay I'm right and you know it.

So alothough you attempt"ed to say you didn"t understnad, now you do. Fair enough?

Victor Davila, another big we recruited last year, is off to a nice start for Virginia Tech already as well.

No sour grapes here, because Hamilton also seems to be the real deal. Just seems like Mac does have a nice eye for talent.

Little Larry Westbrook is also playing for the Gophers, and is their leading scorer right now, mostly by default. After watching him through four games this year, i'd take any of Petersen, Staiger, Garrett, Eikmieir, Haluska, Buckley over him. McD suggesting he look elsewhere was a really good move also.

It's great that he has an eye for talent.......would be even better if he could close the deal on that talent.

Allen wouldn't bother to show up until at least the KU game.

You mean like Justin Hamilton? Lucca Staiger? Chim Kadima?

    Or just Chris Colvin?

I see your point, but I think what he was trying to say was it is hard to get too fired up that McD saw talent in these guys, but could not reel them in and they are tearing it up now. Great that he can evaluate talent...sucks that some of that talent is tearing it up elsewhere.
