    Timeout penalty for wrong colors?

I just saw this article about USC/UCLA this weekend and renewing the tradition where both teams wore their home uniforms. It talks about the NCAA rule that the requires the visiting team to wear white.

Was there an exception for the Iowa game last year? The nostalgia rule? Or did they get charged a timeout for wearing the black at JTS? The article doesn't say anything about the home team in the wrong uniforms, but I imagine there is a similar requirement?

Re: Timeout penalty for wrong colors?

Hmmm... well we wore white insted, I thought there was some rule that the visitors could wear their home colors if it was mutually agreed upon or something like that, but I'm really not all that familiar with the cluster **** that is the NCAA's rules

Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State,
and may her colors ever fly!!!

This just shows how arrogant Pete Carroll really is. Giving up two timeouts just so he can wear a particular color?! What a slap in the face to UCLA!!!

I thought the home team had the choice of what to wear.

Re: Timeout penalty for wrong colors?

In looking at the NCAA football rules and interpertations book, it is a rule that the visiting team must wear white and the home team colored jerseys unless the schools agree on a color change before the season. It says nothing about docking a violating team a timeout each half, however

Re: Timeout penalty for wrong colors?

The time-out rule would not come into affect if UCLA would agree to wear the whites. However, they are going to wear the powder blue @ home. The rule only comes into play since both teams are wearing "home" uniforms. USC is saying it's paying tribute to when both teams shared the same stadium. Me thinks Petey wants USC in the news so BCS voters remember him should OU and ALA both lose this weekend.

Actually, both coaches want this and agreed to this. Since the are both form the area they both get treated like"home teams". THis was started by two previous coaches a while back. I think it it is kind of a neat tradition. The UCLA coach agreed to take a time out at the start of the game per ESPN.

Re: Timeout penalty for wrong colors?

Ive heard that this rule goes all the way back to the days of black and white only tv.

The seperated the uni colors so the audience could see the difference....maybe thats horse poo, but its what i heard.

The Buccaneers on occasion wear thier road unis at home early in the season....probably more cooler than wearing the dark jerseys in the blazing florida sun.

Ok so maybe USC is spoiled and over rated but some people need to read the article before posting and making ***es of themselves

Re: Timeout penalty for wrong colors?

Doesn't LSU wear white at home all the time? My understanding is that preseason they need to ask, and get approval from their opponents for the switch. I think most teams, just like Iowa when we did it last year, are more than happy to wear their home jerseys on the road.

In the NFL, the Cowboys are the team that always wears white at home. I also recall the Super Bowl a couple years ago with the Steelers and Seahawks. The AFC was to be the home team, but the Steelers were a wild card, and had always wore white in their 3 previous playoff games, so they stayed with the whites in the SB, despite being the home team.
