Oklahoma in Big 12 Title Game

If I'm not mistaken, the USA Today Coaches poll is out and has Oklahoma ahead of Texas by one point and Oklahoma will surely move ahead in the computer rankings because they add Oklahoma State to their strength of schedule. That means they are ahead in two out of the three parts of the BCS formula so they are in. Unless, I suppose Texas is ahead by more than one spot in the Harris Poll (unlikely).

    That would be a travesty.

I'm still trying to figure out how Texas let Crabtree score on the last play of that game. Championship teams don't make mental mistakes like that.

It's not like it was a Hail Mary-the guy caught the ball in the field of play and ran it in.

If Texas doesn't get in, they can only blame themselves

I think most computer polls calculate SoS based on the whole schedule, not just the schedule to date. The win will surely help, though.

Who does OU blame for losing by 10 to Texas on a neutral field? Global warming?

Agree. Again, if you polled the Texas Tech and Okla State players who the better team is, I'd bet it would almost unanimous for OU over Texas.

Throw something else out there that you can never prove. I can prove that OU lost to UT.

OSU players would vote for Texas anyway.

Re: Oklahoma in Big 12 Title Game

Upon further review it still looks like it is up in the air. Oklahoma will have a tiny advantage over Texas in the Coach's Poll, the computer polls will be very close with Texas possibly still having a lead (see attached article), and obviously the Harris Poll is yet to come out. I still say in all likelihood Oklahoma is in.

On the replay, you can see that the Texas safety for some reason tries to knock the ball away rather than guarding the goal line. The corner was already on pass coverage trying to knock the ball away, its the safety's job to stop the receiver from advancing the ball after the catch in that situation.

They probably would have still gotten a good FG attempt, but the safety even had a chance to tackle him in bounds.

Re: Oklahoma in Big 12 Title Game

My fear is that OU will pee their pants again in a bowl game. Other than that as long as 2 B12 teams make the BCS I don't care.

Again, it's not who the best team in the conference is, it's who won it. Is USC better than Oregon State? Of course it is. Does that mean that Oregon State shouldn't win the conference? No, it doesn't. (if they had taken care of business in their rivalry game)

If Texas Tech had lost to Baylor yesterday, Texas would have won the Big XII south. The only reason Oklahoma has a shot is because Texas Tech didn't lose another game.

If you're going to ignore Texas Tech as a contender (i.e. say they are essentially a 2 loss team and out of the 3 way tie), then Texas wins the south. This isn't a "which team is better right now" debate, it's a "who wins the Big XII" debate. Unfortunately, the Big XII tiebreaker rules have turned it into a bit of the former debate, which wouldn't be an issue if Texas Tech wasn't still around.

Re: Oklahoma in Big 12 Title Game

I would rather watch Texas beat Mizzou and then beat Florida. However, which team plays in the Big 12 Championship really doesn't matter all that much to me...
