    MSVU Post Game Thoughts

    Some observations from the game.

We finally have guards that can shoot. Lucca and Sean was off, but Pete and Eik shot great. We don't have to rely on two guards and hope they can make their threes.

DG is emerging as a floor leader and isn't making the silly mistakes and turnovers like last year. He is developing into the PG we haven't had the past few years.

Craig ended up 8 - 16 but missed most of those shots early. Finally have an inside player that will dunk the dang ball! Haven't had that since Homan and Vroman. Caught some tough lobs and went up with authority. I know this wasn't B12, but he should get to the line a lot. Now he needs to just make them.

JVB and Hamilton provided quality minutes. Not sure why Mann is not redshirting along wth Pomlee.

This is looking more like a GMAC team. Guards that shoot 20+ threes a game and unselfish players. They pushed the ball more than last year and got some transition points. I will take 22 assists and 11 turnovers any game. This team is more fun to watch.

There will be some good wins and bad losses this year, but I like what I see compared to the past couple years.

    Re: MSVU Post Game Thoughts

The team looks much smoother this year, more efficient running the offense.
Ball-handling is much better. The MVSU press was never a serious threat, whereas last year it would have created 25 turnovers.

The team will be frustrating sometimes, but this year it will come because we've had a glimpse of the potential that Coach is bringing, instead of the lack of talent we've been watching. We won't always look outmatched now, and that's going to be fun!

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

    Things I liked:

Garret + Peterson = 12 Assists and only 3 turnovers. I'll take that anyday.

    Peterson quietly getting 9 rebounds.

people were scoring off the bench!

don't get so optimistic as yet. Oklahoma beat them by 40. Arizona beat them by 40, they had 8 loses this year, every other team beat them by at least 30, I think, we are the only team that tied with them at the half time. So still a long way to go, especially if our 3s don't fall

We have more things to worry about than trying to be like other programs. We just need to work on developing, playing as a team and being competitive. No one is expecting much this year, but hopefully this team can full a few surprises.

The next four games will tell us a lot about this team. I think this team may be able to get to post season play.

I like that this team is getting W's, however looking at some of these players, they do not seem like Big 12 caliber guys physically.

Can McD break the streak against MVC teams this season? I sure hope so, going 0'fer so far is not good.

    Re: MSVU Post Game Thoughts

I thought everyone looked a lot stronger than last year. With their ability to shoot, ISU will beat some teams that they shouldn't beat and get beat by a team or two that they should beat.

Much more optimistic about this year than I was a couple weeks ago. They might be a better team now that WJ is gone - as they don't have to get the ball in one players hands to score - they have 4-5 guys on on the court at a time now that can score.

You're right, but what's promising is that some of the youngsters are coming in with what approaches a Big 12 body. Look at Buckley, Staiger, Hamilton, Pomlee. They are physically built better than BP, Haluska, Garrett, et. al. I hope that with the proper weight regimen, they will be physically able to compete in the Big 12.

    Re: MSVU Post Game Thoughts

Honestly if you look at MVSU, they are in the bottom 10 of the 347 NCAA Divison I College Basketball teams. They are right down there with Loyola Marymount.

I expect us to win by 18+ against teams that are borderline Division II. We haven't played a team rated better than 207 out of 347. I fully expected us to be 5-0 right now and just blow out all of these teams.

Our offense in the first half wasn't smooth at all. It was standing around, looking lost, missing easy post shots, and shooting ugly 3s.

I will agree that when the offense is clicking, we look better. Our team defense is good, so doing well is a matter of rebounding, and running a good offense.

Probably true, but strange things can happen, especially early in young teams' seasons. Loyola-Marymount hung with #9 Notre Dame until the end, losing by 11. We beat them by 12.

Lucca still is nowhere close to 100%. They need to sit him down for a while. He should just be coming back now, instead of playing at 60% for the last 2-3 weeks and probably wont be 100% all year.

39 points off the bench is nice. At least thats the number John and Eric threw out.

    Re: MSVU Post Game Thoughts

I agree that Lucca didn't look healthy yet.

Brackins is not a threat to go pro....yet... he had a good 2nd half. but most of the dunks were due to the defense either over committing or being out of position. The first half he had his back to the defender and still chose to fade away instead of going up strong. I might be more hard on him but he has the chance (given his skill set) to be great.

On the positive side a LOVE the potential the Wes E is showing. This is the first game I was able to watch. He can be really good. Quick release, smooth stroke, decent ball handling.

Diante has shown a ton of improvement from year 1 to year 2. Has confidence and is acting like a leader.

Rotation seems to be still up for grabs. Cam Lee got a lot of minutes which was surprising. Seemed like he had more (at least quality) minutes than Buckley?!

Going to be another up and down year but you can see the team improving which is great to see.
