    Scheduling Question

Towards the end of the KU/Mizzou game, FOX showed a graphic with each teams schedule, and I noticed that both teams got 2 bye weeks? I've been wondering this season why the Big 12 ends it season a week after the Big 10 if they start playing the same weekend, play 12 games, and get a week off. Why do KU and Mizzou get 2 weeks off when everyone else only gets one, does it have to do with the Chiefs?

Actually, I looked at every teams schedule, and turns out that the only teams that didn't get 2 bye weeks were ISU, K-State, and Texas Tech. Is this typical in the Big 12, the majority of the teams getting 2 bye weeks?

It's probably just because they moved this game to Thanksgiving week. Just as if we had moved a game to today, we would have had two bye weeks.

Looks like you were typing a reply while I was editing mine...it seems like 3/4 of teams in the conference is a bit high to just be coincidence. If it only has to do with moving games to this weekend, why not just have everyone play this weekend?

    Re: Scheduling Question

Technically ISU does get two bye weeks. This week is technically one.

That may be true, but I'm guessing the team turned in their equipment the Sunday.

    Re: Scheduling Question

The reason for this is because the Big XII ideally wants to have a "Rivals" week the weekend after Thanksgiving.

The Big XII wanted us to play Kansas State that weekend, but ISU asked the Big XII if we could schedule it earlier in the season, hence we don't get 2 bye weeks.

    Re: Scheduling Question

I don't know how it works every year, but this year every Big 12 team played their four non-conference games in the first five weeks of the season, meaning each team got one bye during that period.

During the next six weeks every team played a conference game. During the next week, ten teams played a conference game, meaning the other two teams got a second bye week. Then the next week, the teams that got the bye the previous week played their seventh conference game, plus two other teams played their eighth conference game. Then the other ten teams played their final conference game the following week.

Basically the only Big 12 teams that didn't get two byes were the teams that played eight conference games in eight straight weeks (Iowa State and Kansas State). This week would technically be our second bye week, but that would only matter if we were playing in the championship game.

There would also probably not have been an ideal TV slot. The two choices would have been Thanksgiving afternoon or Friday morning.
