    Cotler and Co.

Gene Chizik was on the show this morning before I got the radio on. Anyone catch it and if so, what did he have to say?

    Re: Cotler and Co.

Good interview. Basically he began by saying he isn't waiting for "the job" (i.e. Bama and the U) to open for him, he was courted by Iowa State. He gave props to Mac for building a solid foundation. He said that they will work hard and that Iowa State CAN get it done. He talked about coaches being educators. Like the presser, he didn't lay down specifics but rather talked in generalizations.

Cotler asked him alot of non football questions as well, very appropriate as Iowans try to get to know the guy. Once again I left feeling we really got the right guy to lead us in the right direction.

When I told the folks back home I was going to Auchtermuchty, they said "Wear the Fox Hat"

    Re: Cotler and Co.

I caught the very end. I heard him mention how important his assistants are and that he is only a manager.

Larry asked what he did in his free time and he said play with his kids and stay in shape. He wants to get involved with the community.

He said that Mac Brown told him where ever he went to make sure he could win there. He really feels the pieces are in place in Ames to win, otherwise he wouldn't have taken the job. He said that may not be the mindset because of the past but things are set up to win.

And that's all I caught. Maybe someone can fill in on the front end of the interview.

    Re: Cotler and Co.

Cotler asked him a question about not knowing about Ames before accepting the job. Chizik said his wife got online and checked out the community and the education system before accepting. He talked to Mac Brown about his three years in Ames. Chizik wants a good community with a good education system for his kids and a safe community to grow up in.

Gave McCarney props again, about where this program is today vs. 12 years ago.

Talked about how a head coach is no better than the guys around him. Compared the assistant coaches to a presidents cabniet. How the people around him have to give him good information to succeed.

Referenced Rutgers and Wake Forest, on how those programs had a plan and look where they've been this year.

Also, that he will be going on the road to do some recruiting starting tomorrow!

    Hopefully that helps.

Bates is in as a Cyclone. He has said so in the past week or so. I think he didn't get the kind of reaction he thought he would when he kinda sorta reopened his recruiting

    Re: Cotler and Co.

I listened to the interview on my way to work this morning. I have about a 10 mile stretch and when I looked down I was going 70 mph on the highway. Just listening to him talk about the direction he wants to go and the goals he has for the program got me excited. We need a countdown to next year's kickoff.

Coach also said how he likes to listen to ABBA and Neil Diamond even though he was a little embarrassed to admit it.
